Brook Trout & Land Locked Salmon

Today in Maine is opening day for fishing in the North Region, these pics were taken in 2013,we say we will go this year but it has been almost 6 years since this trip,life gets in the way.I prefer to go at the end of September when the black flies disappear.After August 15  it is artificial lures and flies only and Rivers, Streams & Brooks close on Sept 30. The Salmon was caught by me and released and caught 2 more and released, within the hour then things quieted down. The brookie was caught by my friend and kept.The salmon was 16'' and the Brookie was 12''. Overall a great day in the woods of Maine. This was south of Moosehead Lake Maine.Of course a little bit of a hike was needed to get to this spot.         Enjoy.

I do miss the trout and channel catfish back home...West Virginia (and more importantly Grant county and the town of Petersburg 1/2 hour from where I was raised) is the home of the "Golden Rainbow Trout"...the first trout ever caught around ago 10 (13" golden)https://www.wvgazettemail.com/outdoors/years-later-golden-rainbows-still-a-treat-for-mountain-state/article_124f8d33-319f-58ce-9ed5-c2d827c63cea.html

Great pics Jim! Beautiful fish there.

I've not been fishing myself in five or six years now.

I like to go up to Burnt Meadow Pond in Brownfield where there is no limit on largemouth bass. Very early in the morning.

JCM, good going on those trout, been trout fishing and  tying flies 40+ years , i pontoon float boat with kick fins for them. started doing that in montana at cattle ranches , kamloops  trout  from the bob marshall range. break your rod and tow you around. those brookies look like the west slope cuthroat  that were supercharged with life. brookies  were 2   to 3 lbs , there was so much bug life in the waters your waders looked like crawling life itself. keep at it , pete

Here's the spinner I was using.

6'-6" light weight Ugly Stik with a tiny little Shakespeare reel.

I've almost always used 4 or 6 pound line. Prefer the 4.

Haven't bought line in at least a decade so I don't know what's out there anymore...

I like to be able to see the line so I like the bright colored stuff.

WOW,  Patti's brother lives in Alaska,been trying to get me there for years, not fond of airplanes but sounds a lot like his fishing stories when he comes to Maine for a visit.  Thanks     PS puts my little fish to shame!

A few buddies and I have been going to Kennabego Lake River (near Rangley) in Maine for the last week of fishing (end of September) for the past several years. Great time but fishing has been a grind. This year we are skipping that trip and going to Labrador Canada for a trip of a lifetime. They say a slow day there is 20 plus fish and big boys too. We get to the camp via a float plane and they leave us out at the camp for a week. Cannot wait.

@stevebo        So I guess that means a cameo appearance at the Sept 7 Meet & Greet is out? And I was ready to ask you and Ken B what size ring guage,wrapper & brand you wanted here after dinner, I thought between the two of you we could  have at least 1 420-LSE  grace our presence? Hope you will reconsider.      Jim

Probably the funniest part of that fishing trip was when we finally decended a steep grade to access that stream my friend needed ASAP to answer the call of nature, because of a great homeade breakfast and plenty of fresh coffee i'm sure he went off to the '' perfect '' spot, I immediately got down to business fishing and within minutes I had that salmon trying to get away,I played him for a few minutes and brought him to shore,then I started yelling for my friend to bring his camera and because of the noise of the rocks and current to no avail,I reached into my vest pulled out the camera and snapped that shot you see,trying to hold him steady and release him alive,when he finally appeared I told him what happend and he could not believe it, said he had never caught anything like that in that stream before ,then caught 2 more after that, could that have been the same fish 3 times, we will never know,laughed quite a bit after that ordeal.Good thing I took that picture, he may not have believed me?
