Stealth126 54 #1 Posted April 1, 2019 Just this afternoon I was running my K241 to warm it up. I was working in the garage so I ran it at different rpms for about 40 minutes. I have a couple ounces of Seafoam in the fuel to burn a little carbon. All of a sudden it started knocking lightly or tapping. It has fresh oil in it and I have been adjusting the carb every time I run it to lean the mixture as much as possible to cut down on carbon. Can I run it like that? Any chance it works its way out? Or has something developed that I need to do something about before running it more? Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Can I run it like that? Be careful on how lean you go. If you are too lean the engine will run hotter and you risk scoring a cylinder or even worse yet melting a hole in the piston. After making your carb adjustments run the engine for a while 15 to 20 min at full throttle, under load would be even better. Then check your spark plug, if the electrode is turning white then you are too lean. I little rich is better in my book. 4 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
Stealth126 54 #4 Posted April 1, 2019 Okay. Thank you. I will take that advice. On another note, it was a false alarm on the tapping. A piece of the pto mechanism was loose and tapping against the starter. Pretty relieved. 5 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
Stealth126 54 #5 Posted April 11, 2019 Next issue on this engine: At three quarters throttle and up, if you put it under any load or increase throttle quickly it bogs right down. I haven't had it stall, but bogs down and runs terrible. Decrease throttle to half or so and it sounds great. Seems like a new engine. I don't have any experience with what would cause that. Stealth126 54 #8 Posted April 12, 2019 Gentlemen she now purrs like a kitten. I ran a can of AMSOIL Power Foam through it and more importantly adjusted the points gap. They were set at .023.
