K321 Coil wire Arc

Recommended Posts

Ok I have been chasing what I thought might be a carb problem on a K321. It runs fine at low rpm. At mid to high rpm it ran rough. While fiddling with carb adj. I happen to notice on the positive side of the coil, the wire was getting intermittent small arc’s about 1 inch from the post running down the insulation. I pulled the wire off the post and inspected the insulation. Everything seems to be fine. What could cause this and I’d this my rough running problem?

The running issue you first described can be caused by a bad condenser. The arc issue sounds like there may be a hair line crack in the insolation on the coil. Either one could cause it to run rough at higher RPMs.

I'm with Dan. Bad condenser, but it must be connected on the - side of the coil and the body of it must be grounded good
