wh500special 2,160 #51 Posted March 31, 2019 (edited) A comment on the topic of quiet dishwashers... I’ve worked with a couple of engineers who were dishwasher and washing machine engineers. I complained once that it seemed odd to me that most dishwashers were pretty noisy. Both (separately) told me that most European dishwashers were quieter than their American counterparts for a simple reason: Americans associate noise with power. So, they allow them to be a little noisier than necessary. Found that interesting. I have a mid-grade Whirlpool. It’s decent. Noisy. Cleans well but everything comes out wet. We’ve trained ourselves to wash the dishes in the evening and then open the door all the way before bed. By morning everything is usually dry. I don’t ever run the heater for drying or for hotter water because my hard water has everything scaled up so bad in the basin I’m worried the element would overheat. I picked my appliances based on being made in the USA when we built the house. Except the fridge, that was an LG. It was an expensive one. Compressor died at 2 years. Had it repaired. Died again 2 years later. A fridge should last more than 4 years. Now have a whirlpool (USA). I will never own anything from LG again. Appliance quality is so disappointing. And why must everything be computerized? Good luck on your quest. I think picking a quality appliance is a pig in a poke. Steve edit - on the made in USA thing, I don’t automatically assume that being made here will positively be better. In this case I figured all appliances are disposable so figured I might as well repeatedly plow my money into Michigan versus China. They are designed to fail, and LG and Samsung are both models to stay away from. I believe a lot of it is made in Mexico
