Restoration and color correction of a squirrel feeder

Recommended Posts

Bought this a year or two ago. Not much luck getting squirrels. Trina decided to move it and give it a more appropriate color.

Rust-Oleum 2x Apple Red gloss.

:confusion-confused:      EB, they work better if you put some corn on them. Squirrels are smarter than you think!

Ok yeah Richard we'll try that.

Probably should let the paint dry a bit.

Eric if you want to attract squirrels(crows, raccoons, box turtles or chickens for that matter) put out dried cat food.Everything loves cat food.

Squirrels with red feet and a little bit of red on the tail would be nice!

That way you could tell which one is walking on the car at night.

Not much luck...?

Give me your shipping address and I would be happy to send you all the overweight pre-fed squirrels you want! There are so many “bird” feeders around these parts that serve as buffet lines for the furry buggers that I doubt the birds get in on any food action!

I should probably clarify at the risk of garnering the anger of peta that we have been known to "assist" the rapid and permanent exit of said squirrels from our feeders and surrounding areas.

You had me worried when I first read you were trying to attract squirrels.

Now your on my way of thinking.

I assisted 2 with a new home last week.

Then 4 more moved in!

The love to eat the trim on my house and shop:angry-screaming:

We've been quite lucky here as far as damage to the buildings from gray squirrels in particular. None found yet. They really screw up the bird feeders though. The ones that really get me a bit on the flusticated side are the little red squirrels. We call them Red Devils here.

The Chipmunks have a tendency to burrow under stuff but I haven't found any damage around the house foundation.

The red squirrels and the mice are sort of my Nemesis. They've gotten into my outdoor Workshop shed and really screwed things up.

It's a constant battle throughout the course of the year to adjust their way of thinking, so to speak.

I had one particularly aggressive tree rat that liked to get into my plants that were on the deck or use the deck as a take-off point to get into the feeders, which he was slowly destroying. I put the MIler in the entryway, plugged it in, hooked up the ground to a long piece of steel, then another piece of steel with the stinger attached - both sitting along the top of the railing. When the time was right - I stomped the pedal. Small pop came from his feet and the 26,000-volt high-frequency starter kicking the tig function into life - the squirrel didn't even seem to notice other than a slight jump in the air. I don't know if their paws are somehow insulated or what, but was a bit disappointed. Considered setting it to AC stick mode with the dig function cranked up all the way and shut off the soft start function, but wasn't worth the time to wait for his next attack.

A day later he met the old Sheridan Blue Streak 20ga/5mm, problem solved.
