Anyone ever ordered parts from RockAuto

I most always get all my parts from NAPA or AutoZone (usually NAPA since they deliver to the shop I work at and saves me a 60 mile round trip to pick up parts) however I heard that annoying RockAuto commercial again today and figured I'd check it out. I was surprised with what I found. Priced a complete fuel pump and sending unit for my dually through AutoZone last night at $228. I can get the same part from RockAuto shipped to my shop for $63.44. While I have read some good reviews, that much of a price difference makes me leery of the quality of parts. Has anyone here ever ordered anything from them, and if so, was your experience good or bad?

I've ordered from them and had good results so far.

Same thing, in tank fuel pump and sending unit was much less expensive than brick and mortar stores. Also ordered 4 rotors and brake pads for less than the cost of 2 rotors at Autozone.

I order a lot of different Ford factory parts through them because of their prices. I own quite a few different cars and trucks and they generally have the parts I need, sometimes they even have them cheaper than what I can get with my dealership employee discount. I have had nothing but a great experience dealing with them, and they ship really fast too.

I’ve used them many times and never had a problem. I like their wide selection of parts, with good descriptions.    If what I need isn’t urgent, RA is my first choice.  Danny

So far in my experiences (within the last 5-6yrs) 99% accuracy in getting the correct part the first time, quality wise same if not better than the big 3 chain stores (plus the option of several different brands as well as OE), the biggest drawback would be waiting on parts if you need them in a hurry (unless you pay more)...all in all as much as we need brick and mortar stores, I still prefer Rockauto over the big 3, there is another parts company headquartered right here in Staunton that I find has better parts and prices while being in stock as well Fisher auto parts or "FERADATED" http://www.fisherautoparts.com/NewsDetail.aspx?id=396... enough of my ramblings.

I've used RA for years - no complaints here. One note though - make sure to either look closely at the warehouse location tags on the parts you select - A,B,C,D and such - there is also a checkbox to limit choices to one warehouse location. That one is important, otherwise, you can get multiple shipping charges on just a few, or a lot of different parts in stock at various locations. The checkbox will show up when get deep enough into the parts thread to be able to choose individual parts - it is located at the top right corner of that thread header. There are some notes on the site about it - read them closely. I've had no choice a few times in getting some things for my 4Runner as well as other vehicles - so keep your eyes open on your parts/shipping totals and their breakdown list.

I've ordered a lot of parts for my Dodge diesels and my parents newer cars cause we have a hard time swallowing $80+ a piece for rotors and $280+ a piece for wheel hub assemblies, and sometimes the local stores just don't have listings for the parts I need.  The parts i got from them were for the most part the same brand and part number as the stores around me for a lot less.  Like the others said check the shipping too.  There was a couple times I didn't and actually ended up paying more due to the shipping than I would have locally.

There's been only 2 times that I got wrong/bad parts.  The wrong one was due to the fact I was trying to get the odd fan belt without A/C and the bad one I should have known better as it was a discounted wholesaler closeout special for like $5 on a part that runs $12-30 from RA and $30+ from the parts stores

Here’s a story what a mechanic told me 

awhile back . Now this was what he said.

The parts a RA are lighter than others. For 

example, you take say a tie rod end for instance and one from RA and from say napa there is a weight difference between the two. The one from RA weighs less than the other. If that’s possibly.

Used them a few times, get what you pay for. Having an older car like myself it seems they are hit and miss. For newer stuff, though. They seem OK. They sure have some unusual stock sometimes. 

Had a friend who was a notorious cheapskate, and was fixing up a '89 Subaru Loyale. He bought everything as cheap as he could. Such as the $1.50 oil filter. Or the 3.00 brake pads.

When the boxes arrived, what else do we find but what was most likely a 1980's original Fram oil filter. Never even used it. box was mint, thought it looked better as a shelf hanger. The rubber seals were so old that they had dried and cracked.

I have ordered a BUNCH of parts from Rock Auto. Most recently, a fuel pump for my 1995 7.3L PowerStroke. Never had a single problem, but where there's a choice, I don't order the cheapest stuff.

Sounds like the general consensus is I should be perfectly fine then. Thanks for all the input everyone. Was planning on cleaning my old tank (it's bad) but now that I feel better about ordering the cheaper pump, will probably use the money I saved and just go ahead and buy a new tank as well. Will probably be Friday before I can do anything, having to take care of title transfers on both trucks, as well as Oklahoma's stupid penalties for the expired tag on the GMC about wiped me out this week. Really looking forward to getting the old dually up and running again, that F250 Lariat the company gave me to drive is nice, but I'm weird I still prefer an old bare bones work truck and being able to shift my own gears, not to mention I miss the feeling of that old big block power under the hood

Bryce I’ve had great luck with them too, but now I’m just preaching to the choir.  I do have a truck that will need pads, rotors and calipers all around before too long and will most likely source all the parts from them.

Hummmmmmm. I never thought about doing a thread on it I’m already 1/3 of the way done.
