years ago , went to, JACK FROST SUGAR PLANT, in NY state, on a maintenance idea exchange. you could immediately tell the entire system , was set up the maintenance shop, everything made sense , very scary. transfer scales and conveyor sections were backed up with rebuilt sections mounted to the ceilings , to swing down into place , when a unit failed, what a concept ! the most interesting floor had all drive units and conveyors mounted on rods hanging from the ceiling on HEIM joints , so they could move with ease against any auger irregular  angles. every thing in the room was moving with ease instead of fighting it. they also had duplicate drive units as ready spares on each end of the floor. got to use a PHONE BOOTH AUGER ELEVATOR , slow moving auger, inside phone booth type vertical box, get in ,step on slow moving rising angular blade , and in  2 turns get off on the next floor ! when we got back and the engineers at work , they were terrified to try anything that we had seen / used at jack frost. we did get them to OK the balance system on vertical conveyors , we built a " FLOATING SULKY " weight bar that eliminated service calls to adjust the conveyors. very good to talk to other maintenance grunts , we were all on the same page, doing different stuff, pete

I always find it fascinating to see what and how other companies do things.

Sharing great ideas can things more efficient, faster and most importantly... More safe.
