Gasket sealant on k341 fuel pump?

What, if anything, do you all use for coating the gasket of the fuel pump on a Kohler 16 horse?

There's a small stream of oil running down the engine block on the cinnamon horse and it has nearly zero runtime on it.

Newer style plastic fuel pump.

Don't the plastic pumps have red plastic gasket (round cord like materiel) ?  Shouldn't need any sealant.

Eric the gasket alone should seal it unless

there is a chunk of poo in the way. Check the surface of the pump to make sure it is perfectly flat. IMO see what others say.

If it has a flat flange wassn't there a gasket?  Like this used on the old metal pumps

I have never been able to make those little red rubber thingamajigs seal properly. I have even tried a light coating of silicone and still on luck.  I stick with the standard flat gaskets.  And i have used them on all types of fuel pumps.  Good to go!

Another reason why I no longer buy the plastic pumps...If i have a fuel pump issue she gets an electric.  Even a US made Facet electric is cheaper than the plastic ones (which who knows where they are made??)

I don't know if it has a Groove in it or not. I took it off the spare parts Shelf and it never occurred to me that it would have had one of those rubber seals.

I had already been thinking about changing over to one of these.

What do you use as a block off plate for the fuel pump hole in the front of the engine?

Sealant on the mounting bolt threads would stop most of the oil leakage as the holes go thru the block.  :twocents-02cents:

I would make a cover plate out of 1/8" thick Aluminum and polish it up a bit.  BUT before I did that ,I would cut out a new gasket out of gasket material or - if used - install new 'O' ring gasket. Because the pump is plastic, try using flat washers with larger OD's that will still fit under the bolt heads so the pump's plastic flange distortion will be kept to a minimum when tightening the bolts. I wonder if 3M #847 would be suited for that rubber seal.  I use it on outboard waterpump spaghetti seals per the Evinrude/OMC service manuals.

I haven't seen one in person yet, but Kirk Engines sells a nice-looking aluminum cover for the old pump.  He also sells the Facet pumps, among other cool stuff:
