TR250driver 3 #1 Posted February 24, 2019 Hey Guys, Working on the B-80 restoration. How does the steering wheel come off the upper steering shaft? Or should I not go there? I could leave it on and work around it but then the control panel housing won't remove from the shaft. Thought I would ask before I ruined something. Lee1977 6,871 #2 Posted February 24, 2019 There is a roll pin in the steering wheel and shaft. Some time they can be knocked out. A lot of steering wheel removal depend on the condition of the tractor. If it had been stored inside there is a good chance it can be removed. If it's been out side and there is rust under the center cover I would leave it on and work around it. BOB ELLISON 2,981 #3 Posted February 24, 2019 (edited) Do a search on steering wheel removal. You'll find a lot on it. They can be almost impossible to get off. I had to remove the whole steering shaft with the hood stand Assembly. That's what the steering shaft goes through. I couldn't get mine off so this is how I did mine. 953 nut 56,166 #4 Posted February 24, 2019 To remove the roll pin you will need a GOOD QUALITY pin punch. Use PB Blaster or your preference of penetrating oil in preparation for the removal. Park the tractor where you can brace the steering shaft against a wall or tree with a 2 X 4 wedged between them so the shaft won't rebound when you strike the punch. Once the pin is out you can use a bearing splitter puller to remove the wheel without causing damage. Many auro parts stores will lend or rent you the puller. Achto 27,913 #5 Posted February 25, 2019 If the roll pin absolutely refuses to come out with a roll pin punch, you can drill it out. The only drill bit that will work for this is a 1/4" carbide tip drill bit any other bit will just be destroyed by the roll pin. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
