Really might add a loader this year

Of course I dream of adding a loader to one of my horses, but its a big project that few actually complete, isn't it? Well I found a great kickstart for myself on CL, and bought it! $600 for the bucket and frame and forks. The guy is a pro fabricator who was building it for his own Deere, but then make a permanent cab for snowblowing instead.

With this much done, I think I actually could make the rest!

That looks really nice. It will take some time and patience depending on your skill but it will be well worth it when it’s done. I would definitely say go for it.

That's worth $600 all day long!!!!

The guy did a nice job as the arms appear to be tapered instead of just straight box steel. Not that it makes a difference but it does make it seem like a manufactured unit instead of just a backyard build.

I can't wait to pick it up. I'm buying a Pickup this week and once I get it, I'll drive down and get the loader.

Trying to decide if I want to mount it to my GT-14 or 520H. Suggestions? GT-14 is heavier, but I've had trouble with it not having a parking brake. I also have a 416-8 I could use.... decisions decisions....

I have a 520 with foot pedal control and it works great. It is far more capable than I ever thought it would be. I mounted my loader as far back as I could and, while it’s a little harder to get on the machine, I’m convinced it helps traction since the weight is centered farther back on the machine.

520, especially if has a forward swept front axle and even better with reduction steering. :twocents-02cents:

You definitely have to put it on a hydro tractor, and my suggestion is something with 1inch spindles and gear reduction steering, I have 4 horses and a deere 140 h3 with Johnson loader. I really wanted a horse with loader but at the time the deere was all that was available. What closed the deal for me was the deere had been upgraded to 1 inch front spindles and that does make a big difference when u have all that extra weight lifted out front... another thing that makes a world of difference is the hydro foot control, its definitely worth the investment, alot of different handles to control without one.

I have the pedal kit, haven't added it yet. But, I think you all are right, i should put it on the 520.

IMO it's really just a matter of preference between a hydro and manual trans. I use mine on a manual 416-8 without any issues at all. In fact, I like the control and power it has with the manual trans and brake so decided not to put it on my hydro 418-C. One thing I definitely wouldn't do is put it on a hydro without having a foot control. There's just way too much going on with the hands when doing the finesse type of stuff with it. Especially near other objects.

Still using the 3/4" heavy duty spindles and haven't put the swept axle and gear reduction stuff on there yet even though I have it. It has quite a bit of counter weight on there with the hoe hanging off the back so steering isn't a problem even with the bucket loaded. Even added front wheel weights for more down pressure on the bucket for digging. Been using it like that for over 10 years now without issue so...

I do have a power steering setup from a Simplicity Sunstar, that would be nice with the swept forward front axle on there.

:text-coolphotos:           I have a loader on my GT-14 and have been very pleased with it. No matter what :wh: you mount it on you will need a good sub-frame to distribute the forces to the axles.

I wanted to copy your GT-14 setup, but I already had a misshap with it where It went charging off and slammed my car, because there isnt a break, and without the hydraulic activated, the lift doesn't work.

I agree about the manual. I am tempted to put in on my 416 for that reason, so that I have speed control and torque control with the low gears. But, the 520 with the foot pedal will probably be the choice.

A brake is urgently required with a Loader, no doubt about it.

Also what 953 nut has allready mentioned, a good Subframe is really important.

How many Load you want to deal with?

but nice catch you made, looklike it was a good base to finish.

I think also it was a good deal.

oh, nearly forgotten, think also about an ROPS (Roll Over Protection System) depending on your Areal.

may you can implement on FEL, usable in Winter as Roof.
