minotaur57 7 #1 Posted February 12, 2019 When I engage the PTO while in gear the engine shuts off. This is acting like when I have put it in reverse while the PTO is engaged. I have tried placing in gear first then PTO and PTO first then placing in gear with same results. What should I be looking for? Is there a position sensor that could be froze up? Should I run hot air underneath to warm things up? Pictures might be helpful. Thank you for your help.
Ed Kennell 38,023 #2 Posted February 12, 2019 There are two safety switches activated by the PTO engagement lever. One of them is probably not working. Find the switches inside the steering tower and wiggle the four wires on the two switches. They may be loose or corroded and not making contact.
squonk 41,030 #3 Posted February 12, 2019 I believe those switches are micro switches which are prone to failure. You may need a voltmeter to figure out which one is stuck open or closed

The reed style magnetic switch under the seat seems in place but I will meter both.

Ed Kennell 38,023 #6 Posted February 12, 2019 If you check the continuity across the switches, With the PTO disengaged, one should be closed and one should be open. When you engage the PTO, they should reverse position.
