Stepney 2,325 #1 Posted February 8, 2019 Hey all. Got the sickle mounted up to my '68 Electro quite some time ago now. I have the travel hook all set. But I'm missing the lift rod. I'm trying to figure out what purpose it exactly serves in the first place. When I lift on the drive unit, like the rod would do if it was there.. the blade still just sits on the ground and takes on a bit of an angle. Is the rod supposed to have anything to do with height, or is the mower just Up or Down? It's a 1-7311 as I recall. A long frame sickle regardless. The owners book explains nothing about height of cut.
ztnoo 2,298 #2 Posted February 8, 2019 You might give @Lane Ranger a shout about your sickle bar mower. He has lots of experiences with them on Wheel Horse tractors. More than anyone else I know. Snow must be off up there in Maine, if you are thinking about mowing already!
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,033 #3 Posted February 8, 2019 Height of cut is explained in the manual on page 2 - Operation item #1. Garry
Lane Ranger 10,946 #4 Posted February 9, 2019 (edited) FYI As Garry indicated above: OPERATION: 1. The height of the cut is controlled by the position of the cutter bar skid, Part No. 2234, at the outer end of the bar and the lower shoe, Part No. 2677. The cutter bar skid is adjusted by the addition or removal of skid spacers, Part No. 2233. Four holes are provided in the rear end of the lower shoe for adjustment. ^^^^^^^^^^^^ Re: Lift Rod in the center of the sickle bar frame under the tractor frame -it help stabilize the mower and should assist with lifting the sickle mower up when the lift handle is engaged. Lift rod reproduction is sold by one of the Red Square vendors in the Vendor Section.
