Tractorhead 9,064 #202 Posted August 31, 2019 Hahaha, good idea ! i love Enginesounds, that‘s the best music in my Ears. didn‘t wear mickeymouse while mowing, i like to hear what my engine tells me. About Aircondition, hum - no Bad idea. Aircondition i don’t need, but a heater for Winter seems a good idea. i just wanna keep the Tubes and pipes as low as possible. I thinkering for 2 kind of Deckplates on the Roof vari 1- is a Plexi Deck with a Fan in it vari 2- is a Aluminum with a small opener to lift it. I‘m actually on the Aluminum Side, because of the Stability if things fall. for Heating, i thinkerin to direction the cooling Airstream to Windshield for defrosting. have an idea how to solve that simply, but have to check it this Winter if it really works as i expect. Additional the Windshield must be removable simply without Tools. The Beast is my personal Playground, but all i make and build, must be useful and keept the Strong eyes on TÜV. (German Road Safety Company) to get it road legal. If my lasered Parts will be delivered, now at a different company, i can finalize my FEL and go firstly for an Safety Check. I hope i get an Approval, because all is with hundrets of pics documented and we talked ahead how i have to build it. 3 minor Things are missing for that first approval. enforcements ( lasered) stiffener close to Hood opener, but the based on lasered Parts. Warnstickers on the FEL to finalize the Paperworks. (Also from a external Company)
Tractorhead 9,064 #203 Posted August 31, 2019 Doing today few Minor Works. firstly i mounted the Trailerhook onto Baseplate. don‘t ask how hard it is drilling a 1/2“ hole in 5 mm Steelplate by an Accudrill. But i love my Makita, it does a good job, even after 10 Years of heavy using, just 1 Accuchange was needed. than i cutted with the Flex a 1“ Pipe as a 1/4“ ring as Support. after that i moved the rearlights to a new Position because they too hidden what will causes trouble in Roadapprooval. So it looks better, and also more safety. good Headlights are recommanded. at least i painted the Brackets black, because i like the Colorplay. So far for today.
Tractorhead 9,064 #204 Posted September 6, 2019 So the last pre for roadapproval is done. just have to ad a few minors, than we make it Roadlegal. Today i mounted the Warningsigns, yesterday i did the whole Paperwork completed, with all calculations and all Datas, they be necessary. a big folder is now full of Paperwork, ready to be checked. it looks good, that i get it on first try. Say Hello to Edward... we find it today, at neighbours Barn. Boy what a luck, he still have it. Now it‘s mine and so i increased the Herd again. The Sicklebar was in pretty good shape, just a bit Grease, that is needed. it moves but actually a bit strong. But after rework, i‘m sure i works as i expecting. It has the perfect fit, i‘m searching for. could things go better? I guess - no
Pullstart 62,883 #205 Posted September 6, 2019 Is the whole driven mechanism self contained? Like... add a pulley on that shaft and build a new mount?
Tractorhead 9,064 #206 Posted September 6, 2019 Hi Kevin, yes theoretically it was, but the Engine is still defect at the moment. i will try to reactivate it, but than he was just usable for even Mowing or on light Slope, what does my Wheelhorse allready perfectly since a year. Because i would cutting also the Hedge, with the Sicklebar, there was no possibility to use the original Engine. Another issue was, that it must be sideway‘s beeing mounted, so that the whole Weight is more than i like to have sidely on my FEL. Keep it lightly as possible, but have the most stability, what is possible. Especially while it have not that much width, so if FEL is up, i bring on the whole Tractor the Tiltpoint more upper in a maybe uncomfortable Way. That i like to prevent by Weight reduction. i plan to rework it in a Way, it can further beeing used once in Original shape once on the FEL with an Adapter i must firstly build. So i have 2 options to use it. i don‘t wanna destroy „Edward“, i still keep him until maybe another job is found for him. 😎🤔
Pullstart 62,883 #207 Posted September 6, 2019 A simple clamp might help, with a pattern to hold the bolts in place on the FEL... and maybe a PTO driveshaft could be adapted to the mower? Does the tractor have a live PTO? Most PTO outputs are on the back, maybe a special attachment to run it off the rear of the tractor instead of the FEL?
Tractorhead 9,064 #208 Posted September 6, 2019 Yes, it have a rear PTO. i will do a Schematic, to show you, how i will build. 1

Tractorhead 9,064 #210 Posted September 7, 2019 Today minor Works, firstly the new Roof... yeah, looks much better. Than postman sliding around with noisy Souns... 👍 Hi, got a Package for you - byyyyeeeee.... Ah, oh, yes, nice thanks... Cool, the new Dustcaps.. so let‘s change it quickly... another minor was fixed, just the Laserman on Friday told me - sorry, we must shift your job a week is that a problem for you? Normally you the next in the row, but our Laser needs to be adjusted, because our Trainee smash today morning the Head onto the Parts... now the whole Laserhead is dejusted... I heared about his Voice, he is in a situation nobody will be. I try to sounded honestly, but i can’t suppress my laughings... 😂 sorry for that.. Basically yes it is a problem, cause i have next week a Schedule for Roadapprooval and just waiting for that few Parts, they must also be Welded ahead. Sir, i do a hurry to get an Technician and set your laserjob as first and additionally i offers you, we‘ll do your Parts costless, For you patience wait another Week. we try to do it as fast as possible. I agreed, cause the Boss seems to be in bigger troubles Than i grab Edward Siccorhands. 3539EA7A-F1DC-4339-9DDD-D0205FD55395.MOV E6138967-9748-4D7E-99B6-444261B08F79.MOV That‘s the Way i will mount the Sicklebar, with a Welded Nut and a scew to be able to fix it. in that way i can fix it in any angle i wanna do. Just tighten the Screw, done. also i‘m able to leave it released, to mow , so the sicklebar can vary, to follow the floor. Welded in a stronger C Profile, that was stiff enough. Finally the Drive, this will be this Way... 6C84AAD2-6E76-4BC1-AF33-31BE6A0E174B.MOV 1
Tractorhead 9,064 #211 Posted September 10, 2019 (edited) doing today a longer seattime on my beloved horse, because grass is raising that quick in last 2 Weeks. A lot of rain let it grow very quickly. While the first nearly dry day i decided to give the Horse some Seattime and cut the 18cm high grass. Firstly i doubt, the Mowerdeck will be able to cut it, but it operates at 3/4 Throttle with its steady sonor sound. While i mowing about i smell something i can not identify. Firstly i thought the brakes don‘t releases, but they did. Nothing to see, so i continoue my Mowingsession. The Engine runns nicely, just sometimes on higher grass it’s playing a bit with Power than i see clouds beyond me. Not shure what was happen and i stopped. Than the Mowerdeck switch off by itself and i see clouds directly from the PTO. i thinked the belt wears, but it seems still good, but i hear a sisseling noise like a Pan full of Bacon. a few seconds after engine shut down i hear the noise louder an imagine, aaaaaahhhhhh My PTO melts... yes, you hear right, i see black drips out of the PTO and burnt my fingertip while touching it. It was extremly hot and some smoke occurs direct from PTO. The whole connector felt like warm chewing Gum, while i move the cables to PTO. I must see, how it dies and melting down. It seems to me, the force on the PTO was too much about the real high grass. The Engine still have more than enough Power to rotate that force. and grass was definitely cutted, but it seems the slip on PTO bring it about friction to a temperature, where it was melting. Whow Boy, what a Powerful Engine.... the 16 HP are really Powerful and seemed not really impressed about that Force. no real impacts on power could be heared, just a lightly thottleshift, equal to drive up a light slope. A full loaded FEL drops the Engine more. ok in quick sentence it means, increase the PTO Clutch. pics will be made tomorrow, for now it‘s too dark outside. Tractorhead 9,064 #212 Posted September 11, 2019 It seems this type of Warner Clutch ain‘t able to handle 16 HP with a hardly working Mowerdeck. The Blades are still pretty sharp (fresh sharpened 3Weeks ago) The Belt itself seems, has survived that thermal Stress. guess it was good, i didn‘t stop immediately the Engine, so the thermal Stress distributed to an larger ammount of the Belt. and the temperature after release of the Clutch was deep enough, not to hurt the Belt. Than i checked the spindles, if maybe a spindle was damaged (ball bearing or interrupts felt in the spindles) They rotate easily and not much resistance was felt, they also was fresh greased. Another check was looking at beltbspan, also fine. not to strong and not too weak. so the Cause just can be the Lost of friction on the Clutch while strong load at high grass for longer time. Another issue wasn‘t found, and blade contact with ground can be excluded. A check today show‘s the fuse of Magneto was still blown, a changed new fuse blows immediately again. ok, a short is now happen, but it kills just the PTO Clutch. Thats the reason i spent some fuses more than original was built in, also the Harness is still in good condition, except the Clutch itself. connectors in the Clutch are allready still melted and cannot being disconnected. Even the Coil insulation was melted, now it‘s clear, what causes the stink.... So i just have to cut the wires closely to the Clutch added new contacts and here we go. glad that i improoved the originalcableharness, while reworking the whole Wireharness on my horse from original AWG 16 to AWG 14 New Clutch is allready ordered, just wait and see, i ordered an improved Version for a 20 HP Engine.
Tractorhead 9,064 #213 Posted September 11, 2019 I found after a longer search out, that this Warner Clutch just was able to handle 80 Nm = 59 ft.lbs. the new ordered Clutch ( Xtreme PTO Clutch - X0519 ) was able to deal with 149 Nm = 110 ft.lbs That seems a Value that rocks. 😎👍 1
Stormin 9,981 #214 Posted September 12, 2019 18cm = just over 7inches. Personally I wouldn't have tried to cut that in one go. I'd have gone over it with the deck up, then again with it down. 1
Pullstart 62,883 #215 Posted September 12, 2019 That is quite a bite out of the lawn, but it found the weak point in Stefan’s madness (genius) of a vertical shaft Wheel Horse
Tractorhead 9,064 #216 Posted September 12, 2019 As Kevin mentioned, i want a Wheelhorse that work like a Wheelhorse. 🇺🇸 If it‘s horizontal shaft or vertical who cares. My horse did it‘s jobs perfectly and a lot better than i ever expected, independently if it‘s horizontal or vertical shaft Engines. The only mistake, i made myself, by using a to weak Clutch after Engineswap.😎 I know, that i‘m Mad, but i‘m lucky with that. 😂 1
Tractorhead 9,064 #217 Posted September 12, 2019 Rethinkin about my Sicklebar hydraulics. Sure, i bought allready a Oilmotor, but while i‘m searching Parts in shed, i found my Powersteering Pump from first Wheelhorseproject . I see it and develop a crazy idea - i love my ideas, they allway’s so spontaneous.😂 why, i know i have bought allready this Oilmotor for that project yes, but... hummmmm - it‘s allway’s better to have than to need 😎 i‘m not realy sure, but basicly the Hydraulic Pump of a Power steering shall be also able to act as a Hydraulic motor. As far as i know just in one direction, but i be not realy bound on running direction, cause i need it primary to missuse it to got a shifting movment. So i will try, if this will work, and if have right direction whilst run, i had an fantastic implement in my Mind. firstly the Sicklebar can be driven by the Pump, actin* as an Oilmotor, if so i‘m able to improve it with a wider Belt. - why- ? Super simple, that belt shall be used to cleanup the Hedgecut and pull it beside ( in running direction only) where it maybe if direction is right, it can be automatically collected in a Bigpack i. Eg. i love this idea, another issue what can maybe automatically beeing done at hedgecutting in one single Step. So i tried if i can build a sicklebar mower, that shifts cutted material in windrow. If FEL is up, i can simply hung a Bigpack below, what collects the cuttet material. If that Bigpack is full, simply Lift it over Trailer and pickup next Bigpack to be filled... nice idea, if this work. Here are 2 Levers i firstly thinkin about using, right side will be the Hydraulic Pump, or maybe new Oilmotor with testmount how i believe to solve my idea. On the Pulley i can use a simple Carbelt (cheap) to windrow the cut. If this pump will be able to act as Oilmotor first step is done, depending on Torque it develops. if it runns quick enough, next step is hooked. Than the Mounting is much mor simple than i hoped. i‘m realy sure it will workin, but how fast and how strong, i‘m not sure about. (no datasheet to compare) curious if it comes to a solution that Way... 2
Tractorhead 9,064 #218 Posted September 13, 2019 Nearly Final stage.... for the Beast itself, just still awaiting for my Metal...🧐😢 But however, still doing today another Stresstest on my FEL. i tried to lift the Agave, after several day‘s of rain, the palete where it stand of breaks with a loud Crack... 😎😱 i guess it must have now more than 300 Kilos ( Weighttest on Neighbours Treelibra we seen 275 Kilos, and there it was dry) so i simply get few belts they last 25Kilo each, i fiddelin* on the FEL and try to lift. Tadaaaaa it lifts without counterweight ! Yeeeeehaaaaaa! Goal absolutely reached. With counterweight im easily able to lift few hundrets more. Calculated was 2 Tons, where i‘m sure it will last if improvment for Angle was welded in. Just i think i have discussions later with Kati about the Front Yard....😎 Why? Oh Boy, don‘t ask..... This tyres are absolute overkill in Grass is Wet, the didn‘t slip, they just diggin....😂
Tractorhead 9,064 #219 Posted September 13, 2019 Doing today another minor works... firstly emblems... found it good, view from the Bridge... description of function... and lastly a Gadget, i have in spare, about several years - 15Years i guess.. Fits perfectly ! The Next Please... 😂 than i grabed the Sicklebar and rethinkin my last idea. there are allready holes in, they can be used for the mount. try if it was a senseful Or maybe not. As far as the Pump will acting as a Oilmotor, i think it will work. Shifting value i can reach will be 8 cm, max. Will be 10cm possible. think i will reuse the M10 Threaded rod as Link. same from a front view... doesn‘t look bad at all.
Stormin 9,981 #220 Posted September 13, 2019 Things are going well Stefan. Not sure the discussion with Kati about the yard going as well. Could be a bit of I reckon.

Did you check if it's a vane pump? I know gear pumps can be used as hydraulic motors, but most vane pumps can't. Power steering Vane pumps can build pressure no matter which way they spin, so if you put pressure in either side it wouldn't spin at all, the pressure would simply surround the pump and nothing would happen. Edited September 13, 2019 by Mudrig150
Mudrig150 298 #222 Posted September 13, 2019 Vane pumps consist of various parts, but I'll simplify it: The rotor, which is the main part that spins The vanes, which seal against the inside of the housing The housing, which acts as the outside of the pump Normal vane pumps have only 1 pressure side, but power steering pumps have 2 opposite each other. As the pulley gains speed from the crankshaft, the vanes are pushed out by centrifugal force, which causes them to seal against the housing. They pull fluid in through the intake ports, which is then pulled around and pressurized due to the space inside shrinking. The problem with making a PS pump a hydraulic motor is that you have to have centrifugal force to seal, so if you try to put fluid in, either: A: the fluid will hit the vanes and get stuck B, the most likely option: the top vanes will be unsealed and fluid will go around the rotor, also not spinning it. It might spin, but it's a stretch...
Tractorhead 9,064 #223 Posted September 13, 2019 (edited) Thanks @Mudrig150 for upgrade my knowledge. it is a Vane pumpe, i‘m sure about, it is out of an older VW Golf Power Steering. However, i will even if it stressed the Vanes give it a try, because i just finished a quick build for a Mount. I cutted a Rec. pipe, and formed it quickly to a Bracket. the Lighter is for scale 😂 if it wan‘t work i simply can build an adapter plate in Front to mount the real Oilmotor i have as a second option. i want just see how much sidely shift by dynamics i have to await, and if it will be too much, i guess i made a Counterweight like a Crankshaft, to reduce the sidely force. i‘m really sure i will need it to eliminate most of dynamic movement. Edited September 13, 2019 by Tractorhead Thanks
Tractorhead 9,064 #224 Posted September 13, 2019 Do an interesting test. 🤔 i dipped the oilpump with sucktion side into an oil reservoir. As i found it just workin in one direction. 🧐 If i rotate the pulley clockwise it sucks the oil from Pressureside back to reservoir. if i rotate the pulley counterclockwise, it supports oil to pressure side. Guess that means it could work, also if Vane are stressed i hope a short term run, doesn‘t kill it immediately. i don‘t know how far the wear of the pump itself is, but if the pump fails, this is no big damage because ist useless for the moment and i payed trash price for. (Just 5$) 😎
Tractorhead 9,064 #225 Posted September 14, 2019 Build the First part of Testenvoirement so far. Curiouse if this will be work, if not i can simply added a adapterplate for the Oilmotor... This is the „0“ setting This is 180 degrees what means all in one a 8Cm sideshift. while difference between sickles are 5 cm i am able to cut in one side the fully depth on other side just half. i guess this can be an advantage, because the cutting will be differential, what reduces the complete workingforce to the Bracket. will give it a Try... it doesn‘t look bad at all, even the Weight is not too heavy.
