dv800special 5 #1 Posted January 28, 2019 I’ve got a 1971 800 special I use for snow plowing. Recently broke something in the rear end. One wheel will spin freely now while the other still turns the brake and drive pulley. Anyone know of the top of there head what it is that broke? The key way on the wheel is still intacted and the axel can be pulled out ward about an inch or less.
stevasaurus 22,868 #2 Posted January 29, 2019 The chart shows a 1971 800 Special should have a Peerless 1400 transmission. here is a manual... I really do not know anything about Peerless transmissions, but in looking at the diagram...I would venture a guess at #13 the bevel gear is stripped. Go into our "Manuals" section...click on manual transmissions and you should find a copy of the Peerless transmission book for the 1400 and the directions on taking it apart. Another option...get a hold of A-Z tractors (one of our vendors) and see if he has either parts or another 1400 transmission.
