Snowblower for a GT14

Recommended Posts

RickF

Hello, I have a GT14 with a 42" snow plow blade, that's been taking care of my snow removal (in Connecticut) for the past 5 years. I've always wanted a snowblower for it even though it rarely snows here anymore. I'm already aware of the issues about attaching a Tach-matic, and I saw the pdf. about what units would fit, and I still haven't bought one yet. But I am also wondering, can a GT14 turn a 2-stage unit? I would like to mount one if I could, but I'd hate to buy it, mount it up, and find out that a 14 hp engine just isn't  enough. Does anyone have any thoughts, comments, or advice? I'd like the biggest, newest, unit this machine can take. Thank you for input.  Rick.

Well, on the back of my first year 1969 model 1-7441 GT 14 Owners Manual, it lists a 37" Snow Thrower (6-6212) with (6-9122).

I would assume the last part number is the drive mechanism/carrier for the thrower/blower.

So, one can deduce if the factory listed a snowblower for a GT 14, it could do the work.

I've seen 14hp tractors on u- tube videos running 2-stage blowers. No experience myself...

I had a 314H that would turn it but it was really borderline adequate.

GT14 will have same issue or worse as it’s heavier. Meaning both give up ~ 2HP to running the hydro.

I was thinking of outfitting a 2 stage to my Reston mod. That now has a 16hp. FYI, the 16 is basically a straight swap in.

@Aldon does make a valid point, IMO.

I have no knowledge if the snowblower number I gave you from the manual was a single stage or a two stage.

Excellent reason for further research, IMO

I had a short chute on a raider 10. It wouldn't through it out of the parking area, but it easily cleared a 12' driveway... More hp the better IMO...

Many on here say a single stage tall chute is nearly as good as a 2 stage...

IMHO that is true, I had the tall chute single for years before the deuce and it threw just as far as the it but the down side was DOT plow banks and wet sloppy snow, the PO of my 2stage had it mounted on a 314-8 and swore it was good enough, but they were originally made "just" for the 520s with an Onan horizontally opposed twin cylinder, if you could find it there's also a 38" Berco 2 stage that was built for Wheel Horse before the Toro 44", that is lighter and a bit easier to attach.

Hi WVHillbilly, don't have a ton of $ so I fabri-cobbled a tach-0-matic on the front with a single stage and it works just fine.

Here's what that 2stage made by Berco looks like...

I've been researching a little more.

@Rob R, it might be helpful to know the model number of your snowblower for this discussion.

The video is very helpful to judge the efficiency of the implement. Thanks.  :handgestures-thumbup:

I'm unsure looking at it, the width of snowblower you have.

I'd say that works pretty well given its a single stage Snowblower.

Looks like maybe you are going through a snow depth of 6-8".

The auger speed appears to be pretty high, so that would really help shoving snow through the chute.

Obviously, wheel weights and chains (either metal or rubber) are likely a necessity.

@RickF,

From what I've discovered, the snowblowers designed to specifically go on a GT 14 are all single stage.

The numbers I originally gave from my 1969, Model 1-7441 GT 14 are: Snow Thrower (6-6212) with Completing Package (6-9122), have manuals here at Red Square.

In looking thru the snowblower manual choices here at Red Square, I do see many other 37" snowblowers that possibly might be adaptable to the GT 14, as long as they were specifically designed to fit on long frame tractors, and the had the appropriate Completing Packages, and with possibly some inventive, on site engineering by an owner.

I just don't have any experience with these implements on a Wheel Horse tractor, so I'm just citing what I have found in the manual files here at Red Square.

Hope you can arrive at something that is doable and workable for you.

ZTnoo the blower # is 6-6215 and is 36" .  The snow I am blowing is 6-7 inches and it was very WET, when the snow is powder it blows it like there is nothing there.... You are correct you definitely need Chains and Weights are also the way to go.  A plus also is that the chute does not clog  I do wax it before ever usage with carnuba wax.

@Rob R,

Thanks for the info. This may be very helpful to the thread originator, @RickF.

I researched for the manual to the snowblower model number you provided, and it is here at Red Square.

Sold only in 1976. Fits C-Series tractors.

Interesting thing is the manual claims it is a 42" model and you say yours is a 36" modelumm.gif.7a3516389fe7f58ec6a021e906bc81c7.gif

Maybe in the midst of the current "Polar Vortex" dominating a large part of the northern US, your measuring device has shrunk.   ;)

@Rob R.

Well, even at these extreme low temps, actual measuring can't have more error than..............maybe 3/16" at maximum, so at some point down the line, please either refute or verify the original given dimension. SVP.

I must say....your adaptation of the C series snowblower used, was very well thought out, and on top of that, performs very well...........and most importantly, you are happy with the result and the workload it can perform!

Great stuff, IMO!  3tens.gif.59e166358fa3f348a74493e8fb9c006c.gif :greetings-clappingyellow: :bow-blue: :handgestures-thumbup:

Bravo!

Kudos!!

I guess it depends on the parameters and definitions of measuring these implements...... umm.gif.7a3516389fe7f58ec6a021e906bc81c7.gif
