SimonC 35 #1 Posted January 25, 2019 Greetings, so looking at the description of this file: it says that this is a limited slip. I'm not an expert, but how does the limited slip in this trans work without two planetary ? thanks Simon
pfrederi 17,886 #2 Posted January 25, 2019 item #22 part number 7235 spring cylindrical is what makes it work. With age that spring can get weak or break then it acts like a typical open differential 1 4

SimonC 35 #4 Posted January 25, 2019 are those still available .. not sure it's worth it, but curious. thanks
ebinmaine 68,404 #5 Posted January 25, 2019 Simon, take a look at this thread. Scroll down to the first video which shows Steve putting the differential back together and you'll see the spring that Paul, above, is talking about.

SimonC 35 #8 Posted January 25, 2019 how effective would you guys say this type of "limited slip" is ?
pfrederi 17,886 #9 Posted January 25, 2019 They are not lockers but they are in my opinion a huge improvement over open differentials for snow duty. all my snow horses are the hydro version with the spring. They impress me with how much they can push with both rear wheel spinning at once.
SimonC 35 #10 Posted January 25, 2019 I guess when actually pushing snow (instead of throwing it), every bit of traction must help. so far I am quite sad about the performance of the 1 stage snow throwing capability on mine .. (short neck). as soon as snow is a tad wet it becomes useless ..
The Tuul Crib 7,337 #11 Posted January 25, 2019 I just put back together a 5060 trans was was very easy except for the little tiny detent balls that I had to chase around the shop s few times ! That is a great video that stevasuares made! Many thanx to Steve o!!

One thing I have found, If you can keep the ground speed adjusted to keep the auger full there is less chance of clogging. The snow in the auger is actually pushing the snow up the chute and if the auger is empty, the snow left in the chute quickly freezes. This is one of the reasons I only use hydro tractors. No stopping and starting to change ground speed.

ALSO....keep the rpm at or near 3/4 throttle...or more.
JoeM 7,874 #14 Posted January 26, 2019 Anyone spray lube in the chutes or maybe use EZ-slide paint? Might UHMW liner help? Just thinking. Just seen Dave's pam comment come in.
JoeM 7,874 #15 Posted January 26, 2019 Question about limited slip. Will that ring work in an 8 pinion axle?

No stopping and starting to change ground speed. I have a lot of WHs...I also have a lot of area to clear in the winter. i have used gear drives. Experience has taught me there is no better unit for snow removal than a hydro for both plowing and blowing. i used to use a 40hp Case DC3 to rearrange snow flakes.. now only Charger 12s and an Electro16 with a single stage short shoot. Even the slushy mess from last week end was handled by them with ease. It does not shoot the snow 30 ft in the air like the 2 stages but as long as it will move it beyond the driveway that is good enough for me, I am not trying to impress the neighbors. also I live on a hill that is windy. Blowing the snow high in the air is dumb idea for me. Ed is right the ability to fine tune the speed on a single stage eating snow is important and when it comes to plowing the quick reversals and high speed reverse of a hydro are a good thing.

Looks like that extra gear gives that spring enough traction. Odd, but you proved it! Nice test.

The limited slip works great for this job. Even in clay that is a little too wet, it will pull through with little to no trouble.
