520-8 with snowplow fit

Recommended Posts

ericj

I have a 520-8 that I bought at the big show this year. I installed the extension kit on it with the snowplow. Problem is that the transmission drive pulley is rubbing the extension. I thought Oh well I'll just slid the axle bracket over to the right to give it some clearance, problem is that there's no extra room for the brake band. On top of this problem the belt is also rubbing the hitch pin clips that hold the extension kit to the plow frame, the cross rod. My pulley is bent up some adding to the problem, has anyone on here put a plow on the 520-8 and had any issues with the extension rubbing anything ???? any help would be very appreciated.

No experience with your issue but could the bracket on the trans be mounted wrong? Like in front of the axle instead of below it? Just seems like it's riding too high from your description

No I mounted the bracket myself a few months back in preparation of mounting the plow. I do have to go make sure the frame is broken, I'm pretty sure it's not, no movement of any kind but will double check it

@richmondred01, Mark can you help Eric out, since you just finished up the redo on your 520-8 with snow plow. Thanks.

Hello Eric,

Mine did the same. I did the same and moved the brackets over a little and the mine worked fine.

Do you have the 1" spacers mounted between the hitch and the axle? I believe the original extension kits had two lengths of carriage bolts so the spacers would be added on the 520-8 to clear the pulley.

The reason I know this is my 1994 520-H came with the extensions installed, upon disassembly the blocks were found to be powder coated red.  Researching on Red Square I came across a post showing pictures of a newly opened NOS.extension kit with the blocks.

Hope this helps

Any pictures of those spacer blocks ?  I'm planning on installing a plow with the extension on my 520H, and wasn't aware of the spacers.   If you have a spare set, I'd be in line behind Eric to buy them from you.

    Thanks,   Jim

I think the spacers are only needed on 8 speed tractors. I've been using plow extensions on 520-H for years and never had a problem before this 8 speed

Mine rubbed too on the 520-8.

Easy fix. I ground a small portion of the extension off in the area causing the aforementioned issue.

No problem since.

All the best.

Looks like a pretty easy part to duplicate - and price it at a lot lower point than what Toro is asking, lol.

I had a friend that was my dad's wheel horse dealer, and also a machinist, make me 2 blocks. I installed them today and now the plow works as it should and even lifts a little higher. and the price was right.
