Dan693 510 #1 Posted January 23, 2019 Any ideas about stopping fuel from leaking out of the vent hole on a LR gas cap? It appears to be stock with the cardboard piece in tacked. It spurts gas out when over half full and quite a bit when the tank is full. I looked around for a new cap but couldn't one to fit locally. It's about 1 1/2" ID. Not that big of a deal but a little annoying. Versus the ex that was a very bad deal and very annoying so I can live with a leaky gas cap if need be.

WHNJ701 4,165 #3 Posted January 23, 2019 replace the cardboard cutout to fit tighter and punch a smaller hole, or stop driving it upside down 2
JoeM 7,883 #4 Posted January 23, 2019 seems like some kind of gauze between the cap and the cardboard would help?
peter lena 8,960 #5 Posted January 23, 2019 thought, stop that driving it upside down , was the best advice, pete

It's a department store chain here in Maine. In years past they were known for having extremely good deals on nearly everything in the store. They have begun carrying some better quality stuff over the decades. For instance they specialize in Carhartt clothing. They do a fair amount of outdoor type clothing there. I've only been there once but it's not because I have anything against them it's because they are not located in an area where I go to shop. Here's the website and if you scroll down it shows 17 locations. I didn't even know they were that big to be honest. https://www.renys.com/

We’ve stopped by LL Bean’s a few times and it looks like there’s a Renys in Portland. Might have to check it out next time we’re out there.

pfrederi 18,136 #18 Posted January 24, 2019 This is what you should have. It is the original cap on my L107. Note in second picture the inner piece sits at a slant. helps it drain back.

That’s good to know, I’ll see if I can find something better for the one I’m working on now. Thanks for the heads up.

Thanks for the heads up. It’s not very bad, Denny. It just spits a little bit when the tank is over 2/3 full. Most of the time it just gets on the cap itself but occasionally it does get on the hood. pfrederi 18,136 #22 Posted January 25, 2019 The original on mine only spits a bit if I fill it really full, like over flowing.
