What Transmission Fluid ?

Recommended Posts

Eric S.

I need to flush and change fluid & filter on a 1969 Electro 12 transmission model 90 - 2046 that I purchased recently . It has atf  in it now and originally calls for type A atf  which started in the mid 50's by General Motors . Some say you can switch to motor oil with a good purging 10 30 or 10 40 but if I stay with atf WHICH  dexron  since there are many . Just trying to take advantage of improvements in atf for my horse ! Any thought would be appreciated .

I've read Dexron III is the modern equivalent. My 1076 called for Type A as well and when i changed fluids, I used Dexron III

Dex/Merc which you can find everywhere is the current replacement for Dexron 3 and earlier, as well as early versions of Mercon.  It is what I use.

Eric , that dex/merc fluid is the way to go , for availability and correct spec, most important is this   BASELINE SERVICE  on this new to you ,tractor is your assurance to this issue. another thing is to take the time to  LUBRICATE  ANY RELATED LINKAGE, always find it amazing to see what are supposed to be MOVABLE JOINTS packed with rust and crud. just my own experience with, " while you are there " take care of it . pete

Screwed in.  i think Kohler is the only case of not screwing in a dipstick for a reading.  Nice pictures did you mean them for your other posting???

Hi Eric, this is the fluid that is currently in that trans. It’s really good stuff. It is universal and synthetic. A small engine mechanic recommended it to me.

WHX??

That is one fine looking tractor Eric S & looks like someone from WHCC might have owned it.

Anyone we know who might have restored it? Really a good good one.

 Thanks for sharing.

Haha. Thank you. That is rustoleum paint too. Imagine if it was automotive paint ,it would look even better. I left the the original decals on it and stripped the paint off around them. My plan was to buy the decals at the big show and repaint it again. The restoration photos are  posted in my content from 2017.
