oe espo 32 #1 Posted January 20, 2019 Anyone know the phone number for the wizard to help me find a magic spell to put the hairpin in the flag. "connect lift rod stud to top hole in tractors lift arm and secure with a hairpin cotter" Manual sounds likes its doable without an adult, a child and a wizard 😤
Lane Ranger 10,946 #2 Posted January 21, 2019 You need a "creeper" on the garage floor to do that and a flashlight Manual instructions just don't cut it on this one !
squonk 41,030 #3 Posted January 21, 2019 Depends on the model. 1980 and up are a lot tougher. Take out the dash panel and use long needle nose pliers.

Navig8r 132 #5 Posted January 21, 2019 I put mine in the upper hole on my 416. Used needle nose pliers to put in the pin while laying on the floor and trying not to hit my head on the tach a matic! Got it eventually..... Good luck!

Never had that issue on the 520 once the flag was in, held it with one hand then used the other to secure the hairpin cotter ,leaving the mower lift hanging and the rear lift cable attached, but I have had a snow thrower since around year 2k though. I bought a new 520H and single blower in 1991, this pin is a pain for anyone that has hands that need XL gloves.
Navig8r 132 #8 Posted January 21, 2019 I think because I chose to use the top hole (because this gave the lift flag the most clearance to the rear lift cable) is why it was so tough, the second hole from the bottom of the arm would have been waaaay easier. steelman 251 #9 Posted January 21, 2019 I just attached my blower to a 416 on Friday. I tried the second hole but you need the upper hole or else it wouldn't lift high enough to lock into place. It's tough but doable.

I too have "fat" hands L-XL glove depending on maker, and I meant no ill will, to those that are having the issue... 2 hours ago, steelman said: I just attached my blower to a 416 on Friday. Instead of placing the flag further up the rockshaft, the manual states the use of more shims/flat washers between the flag and the lift tube until you achieve desired lift height, but with any of the 3 520s I have/had none needed the addition of shims.
