The Tuul Crib 7,337 #1 Posted January 11, 2019 I'm about to put this transmission together and I have a question. While putting together all the parts inside as I do will it hurt to apply a light amount of grease to the needle bearings and some of the shafts on the inside?
cleat 6,357 #2 Posted January 11, 2019 I would think that would be fine. Some old transmissions with loose needle bearings you have to grease them to stay in place during assembly. The gear oil will mix with the grease and you will never know it was there. Cleat 3
ebinmaine 68,406 #3 Posted January 11, 2019 I just used a couple drops of gear oil on them to help ease the pieces in place

pfrederi 17,886 #5 Posted January 11, 2019 For gear trannies grease or gear oil would be OK However for a hydro transaxle that is going to run ATF I would just use ATF on the bearings. if you are going to use 10w-30 then I suppose grease would be OK.
WHNJ701 4,165 #6 Posted January 11, 2019 what's that "pink" stuff called? I see it used alot in rebuilds of trans, rears, other gears
The Tuul Crib 7,337 #7 Posted January 11, 2019 Not really sure but some one might
McGrew 460 #8 Posted January 11, 2019 Jabelman, I bet you are talking about Red Line Shockproof gear oil. It is what I run in my Harley trans. It looks like Pepto Bismol and sticks to gears like glue. Great stuff, but definitely not cheap! Danny
stevasaurus 22,869 #9 Posted January 11, 2019 I don't think I would pack a lot of grease in the bearings. remember the oil has to get through some of the bearings to get to the ones on the out end. Outer axle bearings and the outer input bearing. I would just soak in the 90wt for a minute or two. 2
