Stepney 2,325 #1 Posted January 7, 2019 Hello, all. I seem to remember reading a post at one point, but I can't find it now. I have an old (rather rough) 42"RD from a vertical shaft machine. I have a decent 42"RD tach-a-matic deck as well. I'm planning to use this old deck as it's still in half decent shape. Should last quite a while when I patch it up. I don't have the model number on hand currently, but I did notice that it has baffles under it like my old 36" on my B100 had. (Had being a loose term, they are very rusted away). I remember mowing with a 42"RD years ago that had no baffles and it left a bit of an odd cut. So in short terms, does it make much difference if they are there or not? Trying to figure if it's worth reconstructing them.
peter lena 8,583 #2 Posted January 7, 2019 I finished cutting out the badly rotted baffles' on a r/d deck I got , matched the finish work with a later deck model I have 42 r/d . never had any irregular cutting or finish with either deck , I do keep my blades sharp and regularly clean the underside of any buildup. my own opinion is ,its not worth it , my finish work always look fresh with no issues , I like a r/d deck because it never leaves any build up. pete
