Stepney 2,325 #1 Posted January 4, 2019 Hello, all. I have a '68 Electro 12 and I've been wanting a sickle mower to put on it. Talked with a fellow through the classifieds who has an older 42" that isn't too far from me. Says it's for an older short frame machine. He also mentioned that they can be adapted by lengthening a rod on the attachment frame, and using an older style PTO pulley. I've never even seen one in person. Has anyone converted the older unit over to run on a newer tractor?
Stormin 9,981 #2 Posted January 5, 2019 I've fitted a '63 sickle mower to my '79 C-81. I had to make the mule drive and plates. The rod you mention was not altered. The mounting plates were made to suit. There is a thread on the work on our sister site myoldmachine. Step by step restoration. October 10th 2015. Maybe someone more clued up than me can put on a link.

Well, thanks for the compliment, but you are only about 14 months older than myself, so lad probably doesn't apply. I just merely used the search function looking for posts in threads you have made. Really not that difficult to find. Beautifully done project you pulled off. Primo! Use it much, or mostly for show and the pride of restoring it??? Stormin 9,981 #7 Posted January 5, 2019 I didn't think I'd posted it on here.
Stepney 2,325 #8 Posted January 6, 2019 Turns out it wasn't an SMS-425, actually a 7-1311 and it fit perfectly onto my E-12. Already have it mounted and working haha. Thanks for the comments, all.

Need to get a 2.5" drive pulley for the engine, currently using an old C-160 pulley which is about 4" and spins a bit too quick. Certainly not as fun or easy to mount then the other implements, but I look forward to running it. Always wanted one of these things. 2

Nothing really to it, just a simple 2.5" OD, 1 1/8" bore V pulley. Nothing fancy. 3 minutes ago, ebinmaine said:

I just happened to have the pulley around from when the C-160 was dismantled. This unit works like the earlier tractors. It doesn't use the PTO 'clutch' it uses the old short frame foot-pedal PTO system. When it was new, and by the book, you would remove your PTO clutch and disc and slide on the smaller pulley, like say an 854 would have. Basically.
