Daron1965 644 #1 Posted December 27, 2018 I have been looking at disc harrow attachments for my 312-8. The local stores offer Brinly smooth disc, and Agri Fab notched disc. I plan on using it to disc up my already plowed plots, and then run between rows of the larger plot. Is one better than the other? What do you use, and how does it work? Disc do a good job, they will require you to add some weight to them though. A double gang set up works better but greatly reduces you turning radius as you will not be able to pick it up at the end of the row. Most of the cheaper ones don't have heavy steel in them and get banged up rather easily with concrete blocks bouncing around on them. I have a older Brinly and a newer one I pull in tandem and there is no comparison. The disc depends on the type of soil you have. In sand country here we use smooth. Notched is better if you are in clay and do a better job with cornstalks. Run diagonal to plowed furrows if possible. Rough ride but better results. You should load that up and run out here in say, May. I will help you get all that nasty black paint off those blades . A tandem disc definitely works better than a single gang. I like the notched blades in my clay ground here. I have a tandem three point Brinly disc that I made out of 2 discs. It goes on my D-250.
