ClassicTractorProfessor 5,314 #1 Posted December 23, 2018 Figured I would ask this here as we have the greatest membership base of any online forum, and many of our members have lots of expertise in things other than Wheel Horse tractors. I know some of you are RV owners and a few may even be fulltimers. I made the choice about a year and a half ago to buy an RV and permanently live in it to save on cost of living since it's just me and I dont need a large living space. The first RV park I was staying in had cabins as well, and one of my friends who was living in them was nice enough to share his WiFi password with me so I could have internet access. However I recently moved to the same town I work in to be closer to the shop for those late night wrecker calls, and have no internet besides my phone. I do all my web and social media browsing from my phone, but miss having WiFi access for my NetFlix and other channels I get on my Roku device. Does anyone here have any recommendations for how to get internet access in an RV, my phone does have a mobile hotspot feature, which I do use with my computer, but they limit me to 10gb of high speed and then severely limit speeds after that Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
ebinmaine 67,268 #2 Posted December 23, 2018 Bryce I've looked into it to some extent here in Maine because I have turned off cable and outside internet access to my house because we were barely using it and it was costing me $85 per month just for Internet alone. Note above that I told you I'm in Maine and the reason I did that is because it does vary greatly even here in the same state. Unless you want to get hardwired in by your local cable company your only other choice is to go with a satellite internet provider. I have not yet done that here because it is not a great deal as far as the speed and the amount of data that you get. I'll be curious to see what other people have to say. In some areas. Here at my house in my County that is not a possibility. It may be for Bryce. You'd have to contact the phone provider that you're using to see if they offer it there. bc.gold 3,403 #7 Posted December 23, 2018 (edited) Years ago I had obtained my ham radio license for the sole purpose of accessing the Internet from remote locations, circumstances changed and never proceeded with the plan. Anyhow its an option for anyone that wants to live off grid. Out little village just got high speed wireless internet and we were fortunate to have line of site to a small repeater installed atop the community hall, before this service were were getting out internet service from MTS via a ghost line. No telephone service just internet we supplied out own telephone service via voip.ms. Our voip.ms telephone number costs us $0.98 a month, the voip telephone using ethernet cable plugs into the back of the router, below is a screen shot of put tiotal cost of service from September 2018 to today's date December 23/2018. As you can see we've spent a whopping $6.34 for telephone service, we've been using voip.ms for the past six years and love it. The service is flawless with many added features that you can look up for yourself on the voip wiki. https://wiki.voip.ms/article/VoIP.ms When I'm on a road trip I use my smart phone from wifi hot spots when ever I have a need to make a phone call, I no longer have a cellular provider but have installed an app on the smart phone from zoiper which is a softphone. bc.gold 3,403 #8 Posted December 23, 2018 (edited) While most of the world suffers from telemarketers, from the list of filters I've created you can see that only one was able to make that bothersome call, within seconds I added his/her caller ID to a custom filter.
