Zeek 2,286 #1 Posted December 21, 2018 We since I'm on the road I don't have any tractors with me. We are sitting for 6 months in Florida in an RV park, so I brought along my original 1975 Schwinn Stingray five-speed that was mine since new. It was in need of some attention so I tore it apart and started re-doing it. It needed new tires, brake shoes, cables and some new screws/bolts here and there. I switched the original thumb shift to the Krate style "Stik Shift" which is more desirable if you are familiar with the old Stingrays. Anyway here are some pics. Before Polished front rim and brake caliper New sneakers I'll post some more as I go. Not a tractor, but it's all I got 15
AMC RULES 37,144 #2 Posted December 21, 2018 Looking good there Zeekster. Started my '65 Stingray resto back in 2003... and it's still awaiting paint, currently sitting down in the basement with the Mrs Rules' original Fair Lady. We still enjoy riding them, though on a vary rare occasion these days. Good to hear, you and the Mrs Zeek are doing OK.
LengerichKA88 1,883 #3 Posted December 21, 2018 I rode a few of those as a kid...I’m sure they’re still stuck in the back corner of our lake cottages garage, but they look nothing like your before photos... we’d be lucky to get them to that state haha! 1
ebinmaine 69,959 #4 Posted December 21, 2018 I had a whole plethora of BMX and freestyle bikes when I was a teenager back in the mid-eighties. I still have my original mountain bike I bought brand new in the spring of 1989. Leftover 1988 model Shogun. I'm glad I didn't wait to get the new model because my best friend did, and his exact same model as mine 3 months later had lesser quality derailleurs and brakes. I still have a neat little collection hanging from my ceiling in my workshop shed. Several mountain bikes and several road bikes. Nice job on that bike. Thanks for sharing.

squonk 42,023 #7 Posted December 22, 2018 Looking at those banana seats is making my butt hurt! I had a plain Western Auto Buzz Bike whilst my friends had all the fancy multi speed jobs. Didn't have much money but my brother's 26 inch old geezer bike was in the barn. It had fenders, headlight, spring loaded book rack, spring seat and low -rise handle bars.I tore all that off. I had a extra set of monkey bars so all I needed to buy was a banana seat. I made a giant Buzz Bike out of it.I discovered the big wheels meant faster speed with less pedaling. Think was a tank and excellent off roader.
JoeM 7,889 #8 Posted December 22, 2018 No pics of mine, but it was the same as the 65 AMC shows but in gold. It was the only big thing I can remember getting for Christmas as a kid. Money was tight and my Dad tricked me thinking I didn't get anything. It snowed and I took it out anyway. Not good but I rode it! I cut grass in the spring, saved up, and got me a slick drag tire for the rear. I can remember hanging my ball glove on the handle bars and peddling across town and playing away games. (same kids, different ball field!) thanks Zeek, that bikes bringing back some good memories!

That slick drag tire was cool except: My best friend had a Buzz Bike Eliminator with the slick on it. We rode to another friends house a few miles out of town. While we were there it started snowing that wet glop. Trying to ride home that rear tire kept clogging up snow in the rear fender. Had to keep stopping to get the bike movable again. PeacemakerJack 10,743 #10 Posted December 23, 2018 I’ll have to dig into the slide archive again. I had a yellow stingray with the stik-shift. It was given to me by the next door neighbor boy when he moved up to a Schwinn full size road bike. I rode it for about three years until I got my Murray mountain bike on my 10th Birthday. Knowing what I know now, I would’ve hung on to that old banana seat bike. However, it was passed down to my brother and eventually wrecked when my uncle backed over it with the farm truck. it was a super awesome bike though. I think I posted these pics elsewhere a year ago but this was from the MACAN car show 2017... My bike looked exactly like this yellow one... i couldn’t believe the prices these bikes are commanding now! Excellent work so far on your resto Zeek, can’t wait to see it finished! Scratches that mechanical itch until you can get back to your ‘s
"D"- Man 827 #11 Posted December 23, 2018 I and my younger brother both had Schwinn 5 speed bikes, they were the Pea picker models. They were equipped with the 2 rear shock absorbers built into the sissy bar, a spring on the front chrome forks and the front wheel had a drum brake. My brother still had both of them last time I asked him about them.

Yea, they have definitely increased in value as has everything from that era now that guys from then have disposable cash (most of time ). Just like I'd like to have a 69 Chevelle 396 or 454. I saw several of them go at auction in Carlisle, PA for well over $30K.
squonk 42,023 #14 Posted January 15, 2019 Here is a pic of the bike I used to make the Monster Buzz Bike with my brother on it. About 1963. Unfortunately I don't have a pic of the finished product. The 2nd pic has my first tractor in it! 3
