8 hp kohler fuel pump

I just took off the fuel pump and to me it looks like something's missing is there supposed to be a arm that sticks off the back of the pump and goes in the engine to actuate the pump

Nothing missing. The smaller engines used a "Pulse Pump" which moves the diaphragm by using the pressure change created in the crank case as the piston moves up and down.

I just go visit Taryls shop he makes me a plate that's tapped and has a nipple in it and I run a Briggs pulse pump. Its his way of fixing it and all 4 of the round hoods are like this

Don't know if you can see it. U need pump above the nipple or oil will get into pump.

Works really good. On my k160 on the 753 it went from having to use spray to get it to start to one or 2 pulls with choke on. I have a 1958 bolens engine on the 753. The one in pic is the 8hp I put on the 552

If you only replace the diaphragm you can get a little extra life out of the check valves by removing the check valve plates and inverting them presuming this is the type valves you have980405628_vaccumpump.jpg.bd2636cb298d72d70783bcfb36a8b863.jpg. This is going to make them seat a bit better.
