LengerichKA88 1,883 #1 Posted November 22, 2018 I know I haven’t been around RS long, but the few months I’ve been here the things that’s stuck out to me most is the way that you all seem to take care of eachother, beyond the tractor aspect of things. That’s part of what’s kept me around here, is that this forum is filled with good people. Because of that, I have a request, but indulge me a little back story: I am the oldest of three. My younger brother and sister both have “Fragile X Syndrome”. This is a genetic mutation that affects the X Chromosome and, depending on the severity of the mutation, can lead to different mental and developmental delays. Both of my siblings are on the Autism spectrum. The aggrevating thing about thisnosnthat they’re not “like rainman” and don’t have any “superior talents” like some on the spectrum. My brother is 28, non verbal... he functions at a toddler level. My sister is 22 and is much higher functioning. My brother had to move into a residential care facility in his teens, because his behaviors were too much for my parents to handle. Because of the severity of his outbursts, he has continued to live in various residential facilities since. We recently moved him from one due to neglect, and it looks like we may have another case of it on our hands. Apparently my brother fell this past weekend and no one notified us. My mom seems to think (or is putting on a optimistic face for my sake) that it really was a fall. These bruises appear to be in various states of healing, varying severity, and are separated by unbruised skin. To me, it looks like someone either repeatedly slammed his leg in a door, or hit him with something like a rod or yard stick. I pray I’m wrong, and that it truly was an accident. I would appreciate prayers and positive vibes A) for a quick recovery for my brother, although he doesn’t seem to be affected by the bruises. B ) that we find out the truth, and that the appropriate actions that may need to be taken are able to be taken quickly. Today is a day to be thankful. Today of all days I shouldn’t have to be worried about my little brothers saftey and well being. Thank you, for reading my little rant, and for any support in any form that you’re able to offer. 3
c-series don 8,664 #2 Posted November 22, 2018 Red Square has become more than just a tractor forum. It has become a place where members come for support and advice for all kinds of things. People here could not be nicer. I've seen people try to be negative or nasty only a couple of times and they were quickly asked to stop or leave the forum. My thoughts and prayers are going out today for you and your family. I'm sure there will be more on the way. Happy Thanksgiving! 3

It takes a special staff to deal with and to tend to the needs of special people and treat them with compassion and dignity. If you suspect abuse has occurred you should immediately contact the appropriate state social services agency. Friends of ours have twin boys in their forties who have been in a facility near Franklin, NC for most of their adult life. It is a wonderful caring residential facility and I pray you can find a comparable place for your brother. http://fullspectrumfarms.org/index.html 2
LengerichKA88 1,883 #10 Posted November 22, 2018 Thank you all so much. As, unfortunately, we’ve been through a similar experience before, first thing Monday the appropriate state entities will be notified. I do tend to be a pessimist, so I hope that it was an oversight on the managers part in regards to contacting my mother and I, and not abuse. I will update you all as information becomes available to me, but you don’t know how much it means to us to have extra people pulling for us.

LengerichKA88 1,883 #12 Posted November 22, 2018 I was at the VA last Friday and a gentleman with a “WWII VETERAN” hat thanked me for my service. It was very humbling coming from someone who saw some of the worst things man can do to one another. Im grateful that I was left a country to defend, by those before me who swore the same oath. Mom and brother are en route to the ER now to have his leg, ankle, and foot examined. Fingers crossed that there’s nothing beyond bruised skin.

I understand totally because my father is a WWII veteran, humble to the core, yet took part in the Leyte and Okinawa invasions in the Pacific. That was a totally different generation that valued our freedom and respected what it stands for. Too bad things are a little different now. 1

The gentleman that I spoke to was at Saipan, Okinawa, and a third drive in the island hoping campaign that I don’t recall at the moment. Once I told him my first duty station was okinawa, he started to tell me stories about when he was there at specific locations thatbonly someone familiar with the island would know. His wife even said she hadn’t heard a couple of his short stories. Definitely interesting to hear first hand accounts. Luckily my brother went right back when they got there, waiting on the doc to look at the Xrays now. 🤞🏻🤞🏻

LengerichKA88 1,883 #23 Posted November 22, 2018 Got a bit of a better explanation on why the bruising appears as it does: since it is sprained, and their is no way to keep him off of it, the bruising is appearing as he’s aggravating it. The doctor said it was consistent with a fall, and doesn’t appear to be intentionally done. Thanks again everyone, my stress level has plummeted 6

PeacemakerJack 10,738 #25 Posted November 23, 2018 @Lengerich8 thinking of you and your family today. We often take so many things for granted. Our health is often one of those things and yet if we open our eyes and our hearts, there are so many people around us that are hurting. I have prayed for your siblings and family today upon hearing the news. Thank you for the positive update in the above post. It reminds me of the old proverb, “As cold waters to a thirsty soul, so is good news from a far country.” Please keep us posted on this situation as you feel led to do so. 2 1
