Fitting big wheels to a C series

Title says it all, building up another horse - but trying to make it a little special... so bought these bad boys!

 

 

27x10.50-15 BKT skid power HD - hoping I can squeeze them onto a set of GT14 wheels.

 

so I set about making an adapter from 5 stud to 4 stud, but the pcd is close and the holes clash- so it's a little tricky.

 

 

so had the bright idea of making making my own hubs. Cue big taperlock sprocket!

 

 

 

 

 

i think it was a lot easier than making the adapters and those taperlock bushes are going nowhere!

Using taperlocks is a great idea!  How about  putting the bolts in from the back side and buying lug nuts? It makes installing the wheels a lot easier.  How are you going to level out the tractor?  I made custom spindles when I fitted 14" rims on my 867 because I like the looks of a tractor that is a touch high in the front.

My thoughts too, been wanting to do the same conversion on my C125, and it's got stock wheels with loaded 23x10.50-12s on it...they are a bear to line up the holes and put the bolts in, I can only imagine how it would be putting those big skid steer tires on. Can't wait to see them on the tractor, and great job on machining the new hubs

Funny, but I was just looking at an online listing where someone here in the States added a similar set of tires to their GT14.

 

I am interested in talking to the guy that has this WH for sale but I don't know a thing about GT14 tractors.  Could you kindly give me a few bullet points on the good and bad points of these tractors?  

 

From what I see in the photos posted online, this tractor has a category 0 three point hitch.    Does a GT14 have down pressure on the three point hitch or is it only the weight of the ground engaging implement that provides the digging pressure?

In the background, are those cut turf savers?  How do they fare?

The GT-14 is a beast! The Sundstrand on the GT-14 is a fantastic transmission IF it has been maintained and not abused. The three point has great down pressure and the tractor with extra rear wheel weights is unstoppable.

To test the transmission you will want to drive it around until it is warmed up and then chain it to a tree and see if the tires will dig in well. Do this in forward and reverse.

I'm half tempted - definitely makes it easier to fit the wheels

they are, no better really - I didn't do them they came that way

I think the guys have covered good and bad and how to test the trans. There is a thread on one of my GT14's on here, and that has the same BKT tyres, but in 8.50 width.

Possibly the best modification to a Horse.

The ones we've worked on and every one we ever build from now on will get rear wheel studs.

I use chrome 7/16" lugnuts from Farm and Fleet

Finished both hubs and mounted the wheels, I didn’t realise how narrow it would be compared to my GT14...

So left with the quandary of making bigger spacers or modifying the centres I went with the latter.

I drilled the spot welds out and beat the crap out  getting the first centre out.

I hope you got your wire we are waiting to see this. We know you can do it. I went with 25 x 900 x 12 and area is almost full, much more will call for some serious modification.

I got around to cleaning up the welds and putting the centres in.

 

 

 

didnt get chance to mount them, but the track is now 34” just 2” more than a standard C and a few less than a GT14
