Chains vs Brains

So we are hit with a surprise snow storm this morning. Thank goodness we finished leaf pickup yesterday. Well I go out to the garage and get my tire chains that I had on the 416-H last year winter, but they won't fit this year. No matter what I tried they were just too short.  So what's going on here? Then my wife comes out and sees the smoke and steam coming out of my ears and asks 'do you even need chains? You just put new tires on before the show this summer!'...duh... new tires, more tread, larger diameter, chains too small.

 

Moral of this story...be sure that your brain is fully engaged before working on your horse.

I just recently moved and I did a dumb one, all my tire chains hung as pairs in the old shed, and by where they hung I knew which tires they fit.  so in my rush I grabbed all the chains and threw them in 2 5 gal buckets thinking I will remember.  yeah that was fun the day sorting tire chains. ...

Sucks get'n older. Would this have happened to you10 years ago?

I notice these little things happen more often to me now and I'm not look'n forward to figuring out my tire chains 10 years from now

I am getting pretty forgetful myself. I solved that chain problem by keeping the 2 stage blower with chains, weight box and cab on my 520 year around👍

I've been that/this way for as long as I can remember....

Except I can't remember when I started...

Is that horizontal or vertical inches?  

At 71+ I forget too. My fan belt directory..... Labelled (Magic Marker) and staple gunned to the shop wall.

Nope, 23x9.50-12's, same size as what came off. It doesn't take much change in diameter and tread width to make the chains too small.

John  the beauty of retirement is you have all day to organize your stuff so you can get ready for the new season. Humm that will fit here Yea put that that there.

I do the same and have things that show up much much later.

 

Then to compound the problem if I'm working on a small project will sometimes bring a part into the house setting it on my desk for a google search then the missus will pick it up and stuff the small part into into a jar or coffee can with out a label.

I'm a very lucky man. Mine does not do that to me.

We are each responsible for our own messes and where things need to be placed or put away.

Best part is, my memory is absolutely terrible and hers is exactly the opposite. It's nearly flawless.
