953 nut 55,074 #1 Posted October 6, 2018 My wife is an avid quilter and over the past decade has become very involved with an organization you may not be aware of. The Quilts Of Valor Foundation awards quilts to veterans in recognition of their military service. I have accompanied my wife several times when quilts were being awarded and each ceremony is very heartwarming. If you want to learn more about QOV here is the web site. https://www.qovf.org/ Yesterday the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians hosted one of the most outstanding Veterans' Recognition celebrations I have had the honor of attending. Seventeen veterans were wrapped in Quilts Of Valor including a World War Two solder and the widow of an Afghanistan casualty. There was also a Welcome Home celebration for all Vietnam Era veterans. We all received a hat with our branch of service, a beautiful arrowhead shaped medallion with all branches of the US Military represented and a chow hall tray (first one i had ever seen that wasn't all dented! 5 7

Pullstart 62,787 #4 Posted October 8, 2018 Great way to support those who have served, and those left behind! and a side note: Thank You again, those who are among us who have served our country to keep us free and safe!
953 nut 55,074 #5 Posted March 25, 2019 Each year a group of veterans "walk off the wars" by hiking the Appalachian Trail together. Sunday they stopped off in Franklin, NC and were all awarded Quilts of Valor at a luncheon in their honor. Great group and they all were happy to know the quilts will be shipped to their homes! 3 1 1

LengerichKA88 1,883 #7 Posted March 26, 2019 (edited) Not to try and hijack your thread, but as I was walking by them just now, my challenge coin display made me think of this post, and that you may be interested in them 🤷🏻♂️ If I’m wrong, stop reading now 😂 I was given or presented most of these, with the exception of a few “Location” coins, and my Deployment Coin. The three most senior are: The center one, first row, was given to me by another Marine as a thank you, and is Gen. James Conway, 34th Commandant of the Marine Corps. The next challenge coin to the left is Bill Thien, (Past) Commander In Chief of the VFW. To the left of that is Greg Baker (Past) State Commander for the Department of Indiana. I was handed those two coins by both of those men. Just thought you might be interested in seeing em. Welcome home, brother. Pullstart 62,787 #8 Posted March 26, 2019 No amount of thanks can be given to justify the act of love and kindness a service man or woman has given, but it’s worth a try. Again, I give thanks for those of you who have defended my right to walk free and proud.
