Pullstart 62,837 #534 Posted April 17, 2019 (edited) Taking @19richie66‘s advice on sheet metal work, I prepped a solid block, peened the tack welds, and used a thick cut off wheel to take off the rest of the tacks. The aluminum slab was close to the grinding to help pull heat away from the seam, but it’s 44 degrees in the shop! Edited April 17, 2019 by pullstart Auto correct don’t know jack. Thanks, it pays off to watch the local auction for shop equipment! I picked up this Snap On 240V mig cheaper than I bought my Lincoln 135 Plus in 2003.... and it needed an o-ring in the gas solenoid. The bench was something like $15? I put the crossmembers under it when I built the transmission vice. It’s nice and high for welding without bending over too. When I was in my tool and die apprenticeship, I put most of my paycheck towards my tool account and was constantly buying more tools at shop cost. The Charger 12 guard has about an 1/8” radius, the 753 piece is closer to 1/4”. I built it up a bit and ground it in. The thin piece received a dummy tab so the ends of the panel didn’t blow out... then a score was made and I broke it off. It should dress out nicely. I do wish I had a couple good chunks of brass, but the aluminum does a decent job backing up the plate for filling holes. We’re 8-ish weeks away from the big show. I think I tore down and rebuilt Putt Putt last year in 4 weeks or less. I don’t really want this same thing to happen, so I’m going to keep attempting to get as much shop time as I can. There is so much repair work to do on so many different areas, I don’t know how it’ll be possible to keep the patina. Not to mention, there are a few different shades of red....
