:text-yeahthat: but he's full of crap and I probably am too. He's just trying to suck up in hopes we can get you to haul some tractors over here to the big Midwest GT show in Portage. Be lots of fun ... fish frys,  cobbler, :wh: tractors galore ...I'll even set you up in a nice condo... it's just geography . Over here tho we don't Sally out and sleep in our campers with them INSIDE the barn! :laughing-rolling:

So this mod thread is what.... some  twenty some pages long and you is finally getting seat time?!? Sounds like someone is bothering the pooch a little much! :D

I’ve got a full bottle of 75/25 for the mig and plenty of welding to do!  A bench is cleaned off and Frank’s on the lift.

The outer lip of the tensioner pulley was rubbing on occasion, so I shrunk it up a bit.  The guard is marked up for modifications and finishing touches.

Taking @19richie66‘s advice on sheet metal work, I prepped a solid block, peened the tack welds, and used a thick cut off wheel to take off the rest of the tacks.  The aluminum slab was close to the grinding to help pull heat away from the seam, but it’s 44 degrees in the shop!

really nice work!

you have a slightly better welding setup than me...

...which features a cheap flux core welder with my work piece dangling from a cheap (wooden!) workmate knockoff.

The long seam started to bow in a bit, so I flipped the piece and ran a series of tacks, peens and grinds.  It seems to have helped, so I’ll alternate sides as I finish the piece.

Thanks, it pays off to watch the local auction for shop equipment!  I picked up this Snap On 240V mig cheaper than I bought my Lincoln 135 Plus in 2003.... and it needed an o-ring in the gas solenoid.  The bench was something like $15?  I put the crossmembers under it when I built the transmission vice.  It’s nice and high for welding without bending over too.  When I was in my tool and die apprenticeship, I put most of my paycheck towards my tool account and was constantly buying more tools at shop cost.  That was right out of high school, with no real responsibilities other than a truck payment.

I plugged one of my mounting holes, but the drill bit must have walked a little and was off center from the original.  It’s smooth enough now, that I think I’ll be able to mark my hole and redrill it.... of course with the help of a center punch :handgestures-thumbupright:

There’s a little more fixing and filling to do...  plus it’s been a while since I actually knocked something off my checklist.  I bounce around like Eric doeSQUIRREL!

If blending new and old radiuses (spelling?) is the most challenging part, I’m golden from here on out!  The Charger 12 guard has about an 1/8” radius, the 753 piece is closer to 1/4”.  I built it up a bit and ground it in.  When I skim the part, it should clean up real nice.

A couple more pieces filled.  The thin piece received a dummy tab so the ends of the panel didn’t blow out... then a score was made and I broke it off.  It should dress out nicely.  I do wish I had a couple good chunks of brass, but the aluminum does a decent job backing up the plate for filling holes.  We’re 8-ish weeks away from the big show.  I think I tore down and rebuilt Putt Putt last year in 4 weeks or less.  I don’t really want this same thing to happen, so I’m going to keep attempting to get as much shop time as I can.  There is so much repair work to do on so many different areas, I don’t know how it’ll be possible to keep the patina.  Not to mention, there are a few different shades of red....

For the most part, the welding on the belt guard is officially complete!  I need to dress the welds and check for flatness, then move on to other components.
