Chris G 3,296 #1 Posted September 18, 2018 Started in today on a project. I recently picked up a b-80 ran rough and 8 speed was good, a 14HP auto with blown rear end but strong motor and a bunch of odd parts. So I'm gonna make a 14HP B-80. So here's the starting two tractors and we're I'm at now. And the greatest thing of all the steering wheel roll pin popped right out and with a little persuasion got the steering wheel off.

Chris G 3,296 #12 Posted September 20, 2018 (edited) Those heave been there for somewhere around 15 years. From the days of doing some dirt track racing Edited September 20, 2018 by Chris G
Chris G 3,296 #13 Posted September 24, 2018 I got some more stuff painted. Got some more cleaning and painting to do. But the parts pile Is getting smaller. Drained and flushed the transaxle. Got to get some new axle seals for that, along with the input seal. 1
Chris G 3,296 #14 Posted October 5, 2018 Received some part from A to Z tractor anf wheel horse parts and more today. Also got other stuff in the mail over the last few days. So started putting some stuff back together. Hoods only sitting there now for looks. I'm debating if I'm gonna keep the base for hood ornament gold or paint it grey.

I hate to add to the confusion but I wouldn't do either one... IMHO... And here's why. I'm not sold on the gold because there's nothing else on the tractor that color. It just bugs my mind that it doesn't match anything else. My issue with you painting it gray is that you're going to be putting a chrome hood ornament on top of a similar color. They won't be a lot of contrast there either. Maybe a darker gray or a charcoal? Or red? 1
Chris G 3,296 #16 Posted October 5, 2018 Ya I was considering maybe black or the same red I used on other parts.
ebinmaine 68,875 #17 Posted October 5, 2018 Given those options I would lean slightly towards the black. I don't really have an answer for why. I just prefer that. Again, my opinion. Not my tractor.
Chris G 3,296 #18 Posted October 5, 2018 Yeah I'm leaning more towards black. Cause I want the ornament stand out
Chris G 3,296 #19 Posted October 8, 2018 (edited) Got it rolling on all 4 today. Figured out my hood ornament base and got it mounted. Now just to get the engine back on over the next couple days. I painted up the steering wheel cap and put that on as well. @ebinmaine how about a brushed stainless look. I wet sanded the base with 5 different types of paper and then clear coated it. WHX?? 49,486 #22 Posted October 11, 2018 (edited) Truth be told on the fence about the colors but as long as you like it. Looks like the paint came out nice. What's the story with that PTO handle? You make it? Cool We just had a laugh about PTO/motion lever handles ... eight ball, skull or the old standby...... beer tap handle! Chris G 3,296 #23 Posted October 11, 2018 That handle is actually something I picked up somewhere around 15 years ago and have just had around. So i figured it would look good on this tractor. It came out of a old truck that was being scrapped. 1
Chris G 3,296 #24 Posted October 11, 2018 (edited) Now that I think of it some more, it's been about 12 or 13 years I've had that. It's all aluminum and was in a 79 ford. When the farmer junked the truck I stripped a bunch of parts from it and that was one thing I took. Edited October 11, 2018 by Chris G
