PTO Clutch Assembly Questions

The SB-421 shares a parts list with a model that uses a 16hp Kohler that has a 1-1/8" crankshaft so there are 2 engine pulleys listed.

106814 should also be there with the 7466.

Look at the engine page for the SB-421.

so 106814 is for a 1" crank 7466 for 1-1/8.  You cannot use either one on your engine (I do not know if your crank is 1 or1-1/8) if you plan on using a manual PTO.  No PTO or an Electric one you could use which ever one fits your crank.

I just want to put the manual PTO back on like it came from the factory.

Then you are going to have to find the original pulley with Ball bearing....

I know.  I put a wanted post in the classifieds for one.  We'll see what happens.

Don't know what shape the bearing is in, but I would consider taking this off.

That would be much appreciated.

Next thing you may want to check is the end play of your crankshaft. If the bearing went south the crankshaft most likely was forced against the housing inside and might be damaged.  This end play could be corrected with the thrust bearing properly preloaded or may need to be corrected with a different block. Just my :twocents-02cents:.

Right now the engine runs fine with that regular pulley that's on it.  I don't know if the previous owner wrecked that pulley or not.  I'll look into checking that end play though.

I just pulled on the crankshaft a bit.  There's a little bit of side to side movement, but nothing that caused me to be alarmed.  B&S shows acceptable endplay of .002-.030" for that engine.

Have you attempted to pull the bearing out of the pulley with a puller? It could be that bearing will press fit in the recessed area on drive pulley 101875 used on the 8 Hp Kohlers that have the 1" shaft.

Not to jump on you or others.  The inner or smaller race of the bearing mounts to the pulley #1 leaving the outer race to spin freely. The outer race contacts the thrust plate #2 thus taking the load off the inside where the crank contacts the block.

I haven't because I don't have a puller for it.

Doesn't need a puller, a couple of 1/4 X 20 bolts will push it out..

Looks like this.

OK I am a bit confused did Wheel horse machine out the inside of a 106814 and apply it to this particular setup..  This is a pic of a 106814 but you can see the lugs inside would preclude inserting the bearing and the center hub is to big for the bearings inner race

Best guess,  sure looks like some engineer came up with a "fix" for the side load for the Briggs engine.
