Tankman 3,518 #1 Posted September 2, 2018 I have a very nice set of 12" cast rear wheel weights. Allergic to the plastic thingys. For my '90 520-8, snow plowing season, would like to find weights for the Horse's 8" front wheels. Any good sources known? I keep finding plastic but, need my iron. Have made rear weights in the past. Posted pic for the do-it-yourselfers. Lots of brake drums at the junque yard.
JAinVA 4,619 #2 Posted September 2, 2018 (edited) In the mid 80s I needed rear weights for my c120 and I couldn't afford the plastic coated concrete wheel weights so I made my own.I started with four pieces of 1/2" pipe,a number of 1/2" carriage bolts, four spray can caps(the WD 40 size small ones),some aluminum flashing and a plastic dinner plate.I drilled holes in the dinner on the bolt pattern of the weight mount area so that the pipes would slide through.I then drilled holes in the caps so that they could be held in place by the carriage bolts when passed through the pipes.I wrapped several layers of flashing inside the rim.I then layed the rim on its back with the pipes facing up,layed the plate in the rim and filled the rim up with concrete. When dry the flashing was removed and the caps as well. The caps create a void where the nuts go when securing the weights. The depression in the center was pressed in by using a round ashtray. These weights can be cast to any width. RandyLittrell 3,877 #3 Posted September 2, 2018 Those look dang good, if you didn't look close, you would think they were store bought! I have a bunch of lead and thought of doing something like that. Randy

Rimguard is $4 Installed here. Another advantage is that the weight is squeezing the rubber directly to the ground. Some supposed experts claim that makes for better traction. I have oversized tires front and rear on the B. There is 255 pounds of FLUID WEIGHT. Another 100 in steel at the back. Total tractor weight is approximately 925 pounds.

Not only that, the added weight closer to the ground changes the center of gravity. When you can lower the roll center to add stability and traction that’s a win win. Especially on a FEL equipped machine. I like loaded tires and wheel weights here in the mountains.
Machineguy 877 #7 Posted September 3, 2018 (edited) Washer fluid works well and can be bought cheaply at Sams Club if available. I use a garden sprayer with a fuel hose clamped on the valve stem for a DIY fluid fill. These 32x11.50’s on my Powermax have some weight in them! Machineguy 877 #9 Posted September 3, 2018 @ebinmaine Sure thing, I plan on loading the tires on my WH 700 and I’ll do some explaining with pics when I do. It’s a little slow but cheap.
