212H steering problem

Hi

Second time posting and I just bought a smaller 212H (1991) with bagger for 250 and gave up on converting my Dads 312-8 rear to side discharge. I threw in new battery and smiled as I drove around yard. Then the wheel went loose and no steering. I looked under and with my limited mechanical ability noticed two issues. I believe the link assembly disconnected or maybe broke. The guy I bought from told me he rigged the front steering with a bolt, so I see that....what do the other pics show? Broke assembly? How hard to fix? They seem to be 80-100 bucks online. Not what I was hoping for! Was planning on 50-100 for tune up and battery, no more. Also noticed the mower deck extension spring broke. Thanks for help.

The steering arm may be available from A-Z Tractor  http://a-ztractor.com/, they are good to deal with. This manual may be handy to have.

Thanks, any idea if this is a major repair and I have to have dealer tear down machine or a garage fix with someone handy?

This should be a very easy fix if you can locate a replacement steering arm. Each end of the steering arm has a small ball joint fitting which can be tightened with a couple of wrenches. The stud that is mounted on the steering sector gear should have hex (probably 1/2") cast into it and a nut on the top that will probably require a 9/16" wrench like the one in this photo.

If you can't find a good used one there are replacement ends available through @wheelhorseman. There would be some cutting and threading required so you might need to talk to Lowell about it. He is a great guy and this would be a better than new fix. Here is a link to his store.
