squonk 41,741 #1 Posted August 6, 2018 My wife wants to have chickens. We can't have them where we live. As a joke a while back I bought a couple of metal chicken lawn decorations and planted them in a flower bed and waited for my wife to see them. Took a while but she got a good laugh out of it and named them after a couple of neighbor's that moved away that we miss. I found another one and didn't tell her again and she finally found it and joked they were multiplying. I named it Ralph after my retired next door neighbor engineer. Picked up a big ceramic Rooster on my way home the show. She named him Homer as he's what you see when you get home. It's our 30th Anniversary this weekend so I got her a coop and we made a little display in hope that someone sees it and turns us in for having chickens. @stevasaurus thought of The Dead Chicken Society but since these were never alive in the first place I un gruesomed it a bit. Hope to get some good laughs out of it. We'll do more landscaping after it cools off! 9 1 1

A rooster crow recording set to go off every 15min starting at 5am might speed things along for you. Ours started every morning at 3:15 🙄 we figured he was on London time. We also figured he wasn’t too bright. We had ours smack in the middle of indianapolis. They would roam during the day, the neighbors loved it. When we moved we had to get rid of them because like you, the city we moved to wouldn’t allow them. Our neighbors seemed to be more upset that the chickens wouldn’t be around anymore than they were that we were moving 😂. I would loooooove to have hens again. We had three that we had raised from day olds, and they followed me everywhere. We had 14 in total, along with a couple dozen meat rabbits and a pair of ducks. Out little lot looked like an exploded petting zoo. If you REALLY wanted to get hens, you could see about circulating a petition and submitting it to the City Council next time they’re in session. I’ve considered doing the same thing, but apparently the majority or our CC has been around forever and has knocked down every attempt at changing that ordinance.

I always wanted to have chickens here, but knew that it is illegal to do so. Funny that last year all of a sudden there was a big uproar here in town when they warned they would start fining people $1000.00 a day for every chicken they had until they got rid of them. I said to myself, how many chickens can there be in this tiny upper scale town 15 miles from NYC that this is such a problem for them to do this? Little did I know that there were literally hundreds of chickens in town. It all started when one of the chicken owners rooster was waking up the neighbors and they decided to call the cops. That started an entire investigation into the matter that almost caused a riot.
