what colors of rattle can

Recommended Posts

Hi all long time lurker first time poster. Can any one tell me what red in krylon or rustoleum would be right for a 1966 1046? Also the wheels should they be white or almond? I have looked and gotten a little confused. Thanks

I've been using the tractor&implement paints from TSC and use IH red and white that can be bought as mixable or as rattle cans. The white used on the wheels is actually a creamy or almond color like you asked. I think I've read where a Regal Red was used which was a nice match too. A 1966 1046??? I know of a 1045 or a 1056 but never seen a 1046. Are you in the States? I never heard of a 706 either until I believe it was a poster from the UK mentioned one and posted pictures including ID tag.

Rustoleum Regal Red is what I consider the correct red. My old dealer (who opened in 1959) told me that's the one he's been using for years and it's a direct match to the older stuff. As for white, there's been a bunch of topics on that. Read through the other threads here in the paint section.

As for cylon1.gif Krylon... I couldn't tell you.

and Paul... yes, there is an American 1046... it's the same as the 1056, but with a different spec motor. Shallow flat bottom oil pan instead of a sump or something like that. They're a pretty rare animal. There was one on ebay last fall in Indiana.

Thank you all for the replies. And yes I am in the states in southern Indiana. I picked this tractor up for parts with no motor or hood and decided to redo it then found out it was kinda rare. I dont have the right motor for it but will look for one for now it will have a k181 8 horse. I am also putting a sickle bar mower on it. Thanks again.

As a rattle can hack myself......Krylon Cherry Red is my splatter of choice.

it's a little darker than the factory color...but once it gets some sun it looks just right to me.

Like Jason mentioned the 1046 is an odd ball & a nice find.

And since I am almost (notice I said almost) the cheapest

guy on red square with discriminating taste (champagne taste

on a beer budget). I use "Touch & Tone" cherry red from

Rural King. $1.45 a big can. So far I like the color!

And of course

I use Rust-oleum Specialty Farm equipment ( International Red) goes on nice and even and color is almost as close to wheel horse original. I to am a rattle can finatic. Only because I use to use my air gun paint sprayer, but with the schedule with family and work. I only have a short time at spurts to do any restores and when I do I can only do a few parts at a time. And I need to paint them as soon as possible before they start to rust . With the rattle can I can pick it up and paint with out the paint mixing and clean up!

The 1046 that sold in Indiana. It's resting comfortably waiting for its owner to claim it!:thumbs:

I found in troctor paint that the ford red seamed to match better than the international red. also the ford engine red matched up well to. at least thats what I used.
