Randy,

I'm glad this GT-14 is getting the attention it deserves.

 

One thing on the 8 speed conversion, will you do a manual lift on this one or run a separate pump for the hydraulic lift?  If you want to use it for plow day, you will definitely will appreciate hydraulic lift.  I've seen electric lift at plow days, but hydraulics is the way to go.

As Richie said, the dash and the cast housing it is on are the same as a 953/1054. Lots of possibilities for mounting a small hydraulic pump to operate your lift. I saw one at a show that used a power steering pump from a scrap yard and said it worked great.

You could mount a small pump directly below the engine and drive it off the electric clutch setup. Plenty of ground clearance and enough frame there to bolt a bracket to.

Here are the liquid filled tires and rims that, for some reason, Randy didn't want.  As you can see, the rims and tires are in pristine condition and Randy could have sold them for big, big bucks.

 

The first three pictures, the tire still has about all the stuff in it, and as you can see, the one (back) side of the rim is pretty well rusted beyond repair.  The front side, the third picture, the rim looks okay.  The last 3 pictures was the other tire, and it had leaked over half of the stuff out.

That is how the pump for my loader is mounted.

I’d love to know which steering wheels went with which years.. there are at least 3 different style wheels that I know of.. 

also, the ‘69 The bottom of Wheel mounted very low, almost on the dash. My ‘71 the bottom is a good 3” above the dash. 

Heres the kicker, I junked a ‘69 that has the longer shaft that was also a good 3” up.. and it has a grease zerk....

Hydro pump for sure @T-Mo, I have a super cub with power steering for parts, so maybe power steering and dual cylinders?? Thats current thinking anyway. Sorry I didn't see this earlier.

I have been throwing around some different ideas on tires and wheels. I believe the stock wheels are 4 bolt with 5" spacing which is a standard implement size. Hey Wheels have 14" and 15" wheels in that size and they are not too far from me. https://www.heywheel.com/page17.html

 

Miller tire has some 7-14 ags that has the right specs on paper. Not sure what the actual size will come out to be, but the price looks right to me. http://www.millertire.com/products/lawn-garden-tires/7-14/7-14-carlisle-farm-specialist-6-ply/

The motor appears to be from 1993, so I hope its in good shape. @T-Mo bought this from @wh500special  and said it runs good once its started. The tranny is an unknown but I really want to put an 8 speed in it anyway!

Thanks, its a pretty clean old truck. I picked it up last year and need to paint the topper yet, but its been dependable and got 13mpg on the trip to Terry's and back. Can't complain too much about that!

Started a little tear down on the Mule this afternoon.

 

The wiring is toast, so I cut it all out. I will use some of the threads on GT14's for inspiration on the wiring, you guys have made them look pretty nice. 

 

Also starting putting liquid wrench in nuts and bolts and the steering wheel. By the looks of it, that wheel may not make it off in one piece. I know its not original anyway and this is not gonna be a resto. 

 

Pulled the right side panel off and its was full of sticks and such plus a wrench, but luckily it has had enough leaks it was oily not rusty!! It looks like it has a PO mod on the right side shield, but looks half way decent so I may make it a little nicer and leave it on there. 

 

Looks like the PTO is gonna need some work! 

 

Anywho, here are a few pics from today.

I didn't clean it up yet, but I didn't see any name or numbers I recognized. At least it was greasy in there and not all rusty.

On the tires, I think I would try and stay in the size they were - to me, I like the larger tires and rims on the GT-14s, it makes them stand out from the other Wheel Horses of that era.

I would too, if you could find ags the correct size. There are a couple of offerings in a 14" wheel including new wheels with the correct bolt pattern. Interco and goodyear both have an ag in the 27" size. It will abe awhile before I get that far though. Hell I could change my mind by then!

Went out to the shop this morning and removed a few more parts this morning. I have been surprised by the fact that even though it looks plenty rusty all the bolts have come apart really easy. This makes me happy! The motion control lever and drive belt lever knobs came apart easy and are in good shape. I think I will try to use them on the throttle and choke levers. 

 

Somebody did some BAD PO mods to the PTO! I am guessing the pto quit working so they just welded it up! But fortunatly they did a really crappy job of welding and I should be able to fix it. 

 

The battery tray is a bad shape and I will have to make a new one. I may have to beg for someone to show what it is supposed to look like. 

 

I am taking lots of pics, because this may be a long build.

I know, right!!  Looks like I will be able to grind the welds away and be able to fix the PTO. The also cut off the tab that holds it still, but I could fix that too. I guess I need to figure out if its fixable before I spend too much time on it.
