Go Kev!  You can do it!  Have fun next weekend - I’m kind of jealous, wish it was closer to me!

Plane ticket to Milwaukee and a rental car would make it closer!

The batteries are disconnected, shifter is removed and tires are off to save a little weight on the hoist pump.  It really looks pretty straight forward.  I’m so glad to be working on a Texan / Oklahoman truck, this thing has no rust to battle with!

No surprises yet...  so long as I can clear the shifter as the trans slides out, I should be setting pretty good!  Everything but the hellhousing bolts and the slave cylinder hydraulic line are removed.

And now, it’s time for some pool fun.

Check out the mass of flywheel!  I know I’ve got a new hanging weight for the garden tractors!

The new assembly is 70 lbs according to UPS tracking.

I Pullstart, will never Pushstart a diesel truck, ever ever ever again.  Amen.

If anyone sees anything that could work on their WH, I’ll make ya a heck of a deal!

Yep.

I replaced the far from iffy carrier bearing while I wait for the clutch to arrive.  This posi lock puller is just awesome.  Without a tall enough arbor press, this is the next best thing.  After cleaning up the shaft with 80 and 320 grit emory paper, I miced everything and I was looking at about .0005” press so I used a piece of pipe as a slide hammer and it all went together well.  The slinger seal was a bit more of a crude press, so that needed a bit of persuasion from a big ole’ hammer.

Next is pulling the flywheel and cleaning up the back of the engine.

Sometimes you just have to have the right tool for the job.  Sometimes you’ve got to make the tool!  I trimmed up an old die making 14mm Allen wrench and used the trimming with my impact to spin the bolts out.  They sure are massive!

These parts are so pretty....

Those bolt heads for the flywheel are 24 mm!  Woah!

I think there’s a tool to hold a flywheel in place, but for this time we can improvise!  The old pressure plate was screwed on finger tight, then strapped to the torsion bars.  It didn’t budge and 4 rounds of torque up to 150 lb-ft!  Time for brake cleaner on all friction surfaces, then more assembly!

The disc is centered and the clutch components are all torqued to spec.  I confirmed the disc is on center by pulling the alignment tool, rotating the tool and re-inserting it into the splines and pilot bearing numerous times.

I hope to get this buttoned up tonight yet, but need to figure out how to replace the m/c.  Everything just snaps together... I don’t know what holds it in place!

Is that clutch from the famous town in Indiana where our beloved tractors were built?

I have zero idea, but it would make sense...

we we have a runner!  With a new whole hydraulic system, it seems like it drives more like a car.  So smooth, I wonder if there was an issue when I bought it!

The fingers of the pressure plate are absolutely mangled and warped...  After finding them, I realized that maybe the hydraulics were just at their maximum stroke and had no real issue.

I’ve been running the Hilo ragged a bit lately.  The fork tilt lines are bad.  One is blistered and the other blew.  I ordered a couple new custom lines from the local auto shop and they should be ready this afternoon, however I cannot reach one line from the block without a bit of custom wrench modification.  I picked up a K-tools wrench while I was ordering lines.  I’ll hit it with the hot wrench and give it a 90 degree bend to pop the line loose.  Hopefully.

I heated it with the torch and bent it slowly.  A bit of used oil sludge helped to heat treat/quench it.

Some days you gotta do what you gotta do!  Too bad you couldn't get a crow's foot in there to turn it. get a bunch more torque with one of those.

Not a real funny installation there.

crossing fingers, you bended Wrench works.

i had a set of bended wrenches, one in 90 deg‘s, one in 67 deg. And one in 30 deg.

Don‘t ask me why they have their Angles, they was made by my Dad several years ago,

but they solved mostly all my problems with less space.

Only one issue occurs sometimes,

if i need them, they will be sometimes invisible....😎

After straightening then bending it closer, I ended up cutting and welding it.  Fingers crossed, it’ll get in there!

      1947 Empire (Jeep) Tractor

The Empire tractor consisted of military power components from World War II-era jeeps. It had a 4-cylinder, 40 hp Willys-Overland engine, a Model T-84 Spicer 3-speed transmission, Spicer transfer case with high and low speeds, Willys rear end, steering column and gearbox. It also had PTO, individual clutch-type rear brakes with a stop provided for parking and a rear belt pulley. The fuel tank and an Empire-style seat were mounted on a large operator's platform (made from Navy ship decking). Its simple, basic gauges (ammeter, oil pressure and temperature), ignition switch and starter button also came from the jeep. The Empire tractor was originally made for exportation in the Lend-Lease Program after World War II.

If I had to mention a couple of things that made the Empire Tractor really unique, one would be the straight bar hitch that pulled from under the center of the tractor (patented) thus making an overturn nearly impossible. The other selling point was, of course, the Willys engine and drive train made famous in the Jeep during World War II. The Empire was a well equipped tractor, very reliable and versatile with its wide range of speeds. Today this tractor draws a lot of attention at shows and is very sought after by collectors commanding higher than average prices.

Well fellas I decided to buy a jeep wrangler as a new toy. I have always been into the off-roading scene since I was a kid. I always loved trucks, jeeps, atvs. Recently a friend of mine traded his mustang for a lifted wrangler and its a blast to go off-roading in or wheeling as they like to put it.

I couldn't help myself and wanted to join in so I bought a 1993 with 153,000 miles on it with a ton of add ons for a great price. It has a 5.5" suspension lift, a 2' body lift and rides on 35" tires. She has 4.56 gears which are awesome for crawling, 4wd low range and 1st gear and you don't even have to touch the gas pedal. It is a 4.0L 6 cylinder engine back by a 5 speed manual trans. The rear drive shaft is a custom cv drive shaft with a slip yoke eliminator. The rear axle is a ford 8.8 limited slip with disc brakes out of a ford explorer. The frame is perfect not a spec of rust and was coated with POR-15.

She does have her fair share of issues but I am working on getting those straightened out! I just had the front drive shaft rebuilt and balanced. I ordered all new extremely heavy duty shocks. I need to fabricate 2 custom rear shock mounts as the "custom" ones that were on it broke off lol. She needs 2 new leaf spring packs in the rear. Some body work. A good cleaning after this weekend. Some fender flares. Etc!

If anyone has any good oh crap off-roading or wheeling stories with their jeeps or pictures please share. After this past Sundays experience I could probably top them lol.

I hope you enjoy the pics and the video my jeep was the main attraction. (I did not edit the video a friend did, so turn down the volume or the music might scare you)
