I don’t have anything to do with my father, since I can remember, but I once visited his barn and am do believe hoarding is hereditary unfortunately.  I do try… I swear.

@Pullstart  good for you ,  all those body seams , box sections , inside doors , fender edges , you will see a film show up in related areas , telling you the creeping lube is getting in there , suspension areas . that rear end and related springs . that oil film will stop rust . my latest car was almost done  a  year ago , recent servicing showed , complete coverage , not a speck of rust , and an oil like film everywhere .  just a marvel  to look at the protection . stay after it , greasy , pete

I took the maiden voyage today.  There’s a check engine light (crank position sensor) and my assumption is a residual code from when the crankshaft was in two positions at once!

Cleaning up today, I noticed the back of the broken motor mounts.  They have some old cracks across the majority of them, along with impact carnage and twists.  The customer and I had the chicken or the egg debate, whether the broken crankshaft wrecked the mounts, or if the mounts broke the crank.  There is evidence of the truck being in a pretty hard accident, tabs on the frame are bent, headlights wire tied together, etc.  

 

I think this solidifies the idea that the mounts have been bad for quite a long time.

The new engine is in and getting close to priming it.  With no distributor, the instructions state that I can simply disconnect the fuel injection and ignition systems and roll it over for a while stopping every 15-20 seconds.  I’ll opt to omit the spark plugs as well so it doesn’t build any compression or excess force on the cranks and rods.

I got all the grounds hooked up and enough things in place to roll it over.  Just by the starter, I achieved 30 psi of oil pressure.  I ran it 10 seconds at a time, for about 10 rounds to make sure oil bubbles are out of the system.

Doing some break in.  I know it’s not required for a roller rocker / hydraulic lifters engine, but it’s worth the extra $80 in my opinion.

 

After 30 minutes, I’ll check the coolant level, change the oil, finish up the inner fenders, engine cover, skid plates, etc, and get the tires on for a test drive!

I like the idea.

i be allway‘s a friend from Burn in or Break in before final.

Even if an Engine was built in a Clean Room i do allway‘s a first flush with a „ cleanupoil“ and a Filterchange before the first use.

I did it also on my Predator Horse Engine.

 

I believe this can‘t be wrong and my experiences tell‘s me right.

The fan clutch is screwed onto an idler pulley where an old school water pump would sit.  It can be a bear to knock it loose sometimes.  It slips inside the belt, no matter how much positive tension is applied onto the tensioner.  I found that spray tack helped hold the pulley to the belt!

I believe that.  I’ve been told an air hammer / chisel on the nut.  That to me means no leverage.  Well, your tool selection handles that!

I have a friend that's a machinic that uses that on front wheel drive hub nuts when his impack won't move them.  They might resist for a while but they give up and turn.

Though I’m replacing all 8, I realized that it’s just as easy to read a glow plug as it is to read a spark plug to find the rich (or leaking) cylinder

Norman’s current state:  passenger side is buttoned up with new (reman) injectors and new glow plugs too!

 

I started on the driver side now.  Tear down!  Found the blown power steering hose too, so I replaced that to clean things up a bit.

      1947 Empire (Jeep) Tractor

      The Empire tractor consisted of military power components from World War II-era jeeps. It had a 4-cylinder, 40 hp Willys-Overland engine, a Model T-84 Spicer 3-speed transmission, Spicer transfer case with high and low speeds, Willys rear end, steering column and gearbox. It also had PTO, individual clutch-type rear brakes with a stop provided for parking and a rear belt pulley. The fuel tank and an Empire-style seat were mounted on a large operator's platform (made from Navy ship decking). Its simple, basic gauges (ammeter, oil pressure and temperature), ignition switch and starter button also came from the jeep. The Empire tractor was originally made for exportation in the Lend-Lease Program after World War II. 

      If I had to mention a couple of things that made the Empire Tractor really unique, one would be the straight bar hitch that pulled from under the center of the tractor (patented) thus making an overturn nearly impossible. The other selling point was, of course, the Willys engine and drive train made famous in the Jeep during World War II. The Empire was a well equipped tractor, very reliable and versatile with its wide range of speeds. Today this tractor draws a lot of attention at shows and is very sought after by collectors commanding higher than average prices.

      Well fellas I decided to buy a jeep wrangler as a new toy. I have always been into the off-roading scene since I was a kid. I always loved trucks, jeeps, atvs. Recently a friend of mine traded his mustang for a lifted wrangler and its a blast to go off-roading in or wheeling as they like to put it.
       
      I couldn't help myself and wanted to join in so I bought a 1993 with 153,000 miles on it with a ton of add ons for a great price. It has a 5.5" suspension lift, a 2' body lift and rides on 35" tires. She has 4.56 gears which are awesome for crawling, 4wd low range and 1st gear and you don't even have to touch the gas pedal. It is a 4.0L 6 cylinder engine back by a 5 speed manual trans. The rear drive shaft is a custom cv drive shaft with a slip yoke eliminator. The rear axle is a ford 8.8 limited slip with disc brakes out of a ford explorer. The frame is perfect not a spec of rust and was coated with POR-15.
       
      She does have her fair share of issues but I am working on getting those straightened out! I just had the front drive shaft rebuilt and balanced. I ordered all new extremely heavy duty shocks. I need to fabricate 2 custom rear shock mounts as the "custom" ones that were on it broke off lol. She needs 2 new leaf spring packs in the rear. Some body work. A good cleaning after this weekend. Some fender flares. Etc!
       

       
      If anyone has any good oh crap off-roading or wheeling stories with their jeeps or pictures please share. After this past Sundays experience I could probably top them lol.
