If's ya' install a hydro ........ DON'T THROW THAT 953'S OLD TRANSMISSION OUT !!!. The 1963 Wheel Horse Model 953 used the UNDRIVE that has "spider type" (automotive) differential gears and are very hard to come by. (Notice I do not use the word "RARE" but in this case yup those gears are RARE)

Well...... hopefully I will be getting my own 953 very soon. Working out logistics. If that happens, this TRANSMISSION will be a spare. It will not get tossed, thats for sure.

What do you know......... It was advertised as a 953 so that is what I thought I bought. It’s a 1054👍

Just took some brake cleaner and got the spray paint off the engine decal just enough to see “10 hp” so I am guessing it is a 1054. 👍

953 nut

:text-coolphotos:             The serial number is in the 1054 range. Looks like they saved you the disassembly work.    :ychain:

I have a 1054 seat frame you can have when you are ready for it. I figure we will be going to the Mouse House at some point in the spring and we can bring it down.

I'll be watching closely too.  I have that poor old blue 953 in the shed and I'm wondering what the tranny is going to look like inside.

Not sure when I’ll get that far into it but when/if I do, I’ll take lots of pictures.

Richie wasn’t gonna have any more tractor projects until after the move... and I was only hauling Putt Putt home from the show.:laughing-rofl:   Karen is a sweet lady, she deserves your loving attention in house and tractor projects equally!

No I wasn’t but things happen AND I have started back on the house. I have to get it back to a roller though so it’s easier to move 😁

The '66-'67 hydrogear models used a 2-pinion bevel gear differential in them as well, just like the 953/1054 models. I think there are case differences, but the inside guts of the differential should be the same. Lot of those early model Sundstrands failed due to no one ever changing the oil in them, but a lot of them are out there floating around. I can't recall the tag numbers on that one right now, but I'm sure @gwest_ca will be along in about 5,4,3,2,1....

Don't forget Richie  I make the seats for those. Maybe a nice red and white seat to go with that custom paint job..
