19richie66 17,508 #1 Posted July 2, 2018 (EDIT : Found out it’s a 1054 )I had seen an ad on facebook for a 953 project about 3 hours south of me the week before the big show. Didn’t have the extra cash. Well this weekend I messaged him and he gave me a reduced price I couldn’t pass up. Started digging through the shed to find things to sell. A couple hours later and I had some extra cash. Made arrangements and went and picked up my wife’s “new tractor” She took a liking to them at the show. Only thing is..... she wants a hydro. The gears are turning. It has no hydraulic pump, hood,seat/frame, missing some linkage. I have another eaton 1100 and the axles to widen it as I did with my gt14 and a ton of spare gt14 control linkage parts. We’ll see where this goes but I cannot promise it will not get butchered. 3

Wild Bill in VA 1,452 #3 Posted July 3, 2018 If's ya' install a hydro ........ DON'T THROW THAT 953'S OLD TRANSMISSION OUT !!!. The 1963 Wheel Horse Model 953 used the UNDRIVE that has "spider type" (automotive) differential gears and are very hard to come by. (Notice I do not use the word "RARE" but in this case yup those gears are RARE) Wild Bill in Richmond VA 4
19richie66 17,508 #4 Posted July 3, 2018 (edited) Well...... hopefully I will be getting my own 953 very soon. Working out logistics. If that happens, this TRANSMISSION will be a spare. It will not get tossed, thats for sure. Edited July 3, 2018 by 19richie66 3

19richie66 17,508 #7 Posted July 3, 2018 (edited) What do you know......... It was advertised as a 953 so that is what I thought I bought. It’s a 1054👍 Edited July 3, 2018 by 19richie66
19richie66 17,508 #8 Posted July 3, 2018 Just took some brake cleaner and got the spray paint off the engine decal just enough to see “10 hp” so I am guessing it is a 1054. 👍
953 nut 55,317 #9 Posted July 3, 2018 The serial number is in the 1054 range. Looks like they saved you the disassembly work. I have a 1054 seat frame you can have when you are ready for it. I figure we will be going to the Mouse House at some point in the spring and we can bring it down. 3

Pullstart 62,912 #21 Posted July 5, 2018 Richie wasn’t gonna have any more tractor projects until after the move... and I was only hauling Putt Putt home from the show. Karen is a sweet lady, she deserves your loving attention in house and tractor projects equally!
19richie66 17,508 #22 Posted July 5, 2018 No I wasn’t but things happen AND I have started back on the house. I have to get it back to a roller though so it’s easier to move 😁 3
Sarge 3,463 #23 Posted July 5, 2018 The '66-'67 hydrogear models used a 2-pinion bevel gear differential in them as well, just like the 953/1054 models. I think there are case differences, but the inside guts of the differential should be the same. Lot of those early model Sundstrands failed due to no one ever changing the oil in them, but a lot of them are out there floating around. I can't recall the tag numbers on that one right now, but I'm sure @gwest_ca will be along in about 5,4,3,2,1.... Sarge
19richie66 17,508 #24 Posted July 5, 2018 If it gets a hydro it will be another widened eaton 1100. I already have everything to do it anyways.
BOB ELLISON 2,981 #25 Posted July 5, 2018 Don't forget Richie I make the seats for those. Maybe a nice red and white seat to go with that custom paint job.. 1
