I found a local auto paint store sells ready mixed auto paint and it is a really good match (at least the chip was). Here it’s not even 4 o clock and I’m outta likes for the day again. Sarge 3,464 #42 Posted July 18, 2018 Is it just me, or is that an odd placement for the sway chains on the 3pt? That's really turning out sharp - very nice work. Sarge

Sarge I think because the chains are a few few kinks too long it give the look they are out of place but that is the correct location👍
Sarge 3,464 #44 Posted July 19, 2018 Ah, I see now. At first glance, it appeared the chains were on a high, fixed location. I see now they are attached to the top of the main lift arms, which allows them to keep a constant length through the lift range. The D's don't work that way - I've considered changing my 180 over somehow to the same idea so the chains won't bind when you lower the 3pt. Sarge
stevebo-(Moderator) 8,363 #45 Posted July 19, 2018 Sarge a little better angle 1
Sarge 3,464 #46 Posted July 20, 2018 Yeah - those move on the same arc as the lift arms, much better than being anchored to the mounting frame on the D which is a fixed point. Sarge
Sarge 3,464 #47 Posted July 20, 2018 Btw - is there any difference in that C series front axle as to strength versus the standard ones? If I can ever find a 195, it would be useful to know ahead of time. Sarge

I believe they were called the HD spindle upgrade.
Sarge 3,464 #49 Posted July 21, 2018 I'll have to check by the part numbers. I was aware of the HD spindles due to the added weight of that specific C series, but not sure on the axle casting itself. My whole drive is a preference for separate mid/rear lift controls but the D series has far too many weak areas. Sort of a shame they used the angle iron frame in the Super C - the D's frame design was much stronger. Sarge
stevebo-(Moderator) 8,363 #50 Posted July 21, 2018 Sarge, I did not measure the thickness of the spindles but I would guess at least 1" maybe 1 1/8? That would make the axle different I assume as well. I has a D and pre 76 they all had broken bull gear bolts since they were not hardened and that disaster of a parking "pawl" was a nightmare. Also the tranny shaft always wears as they used the fine teeth.
