The covers are getting a vinegar bath. It’s taking the rust off.

so you know the vinagar trick! I swear by it.  I swear by it an nobody believes me.  these rims were of a david bradley suburban, soaked a week and steel wool and washed just as good as blasting.

Thank you. I believe you. It works and it’s cheaper than the rust removing liquids on the market.Your wheels look great. My boys started taking the Suburban apart today. I had to take the steering wheel off, that was a pain. Tomorrow the hood and deck will come off.

That is really a BIG jump in grits!  I'd use nothing coarser than 600 if you intend to then buff it!

When you are wet sanding that much rust 180/220 is fine and then up it to finer as you go. Just need to wet sand lightly.

Thanks . Very true! I want to save as much as possible. We have an electric pressure washer that doesn’t have too much pressure.

Steve, are these the correct foot rests on this tractor? A lot of the ones I see look like they have a notch in them for a boot heal .

That's a good question. Yours are different that the ones that came on my 400 but I really don't know what's original

Thank you. The finished product is the one on the metal Suburban signs Terry sells. I'm curious what the others say about the foot rests. It wouldn't surprise me one bit if both are correct. I picked yo a pair of the cast 61 foot rests at the big show and will get them installed as soon as I get the broken bolt out of one of them and some paint splashed on. Those diamond plate rests now belong to @WHX20

Been a big fan of Scotch-Brite for decades for cleaning and scuffing but it does not level and remove high spots like sandpaper.
