mustang1970 5 #3 Posted June 24, 2018 Nice show great people HOWEVER a lot of vendors were packing up Saturday morning by 11: 00 this isn't wright for those of us that can't come till Saturday morning the vendors need to stay at least till 3:00. When I did car shows/swap meets years back a vendor could not pack up before 3:00 in the afternoon on the last day.

This Suburban 400 was originally in the Wheel Horse Factory Museum in South Bend, IN to which I guess to represent the early Wheel Horse models BUT AGAIN ... some one put a few incorrect year model parts on it to maybe "pretty the tractor up" and make it more presentable . This tractor has both the shoe shaped foot rest and the horse stirrup type. The rear fenders are not the FA-58 type but are from the 1962 to 1964 era. The mower deck is a RMR 3261 made in 1961 for the 1961 Suburban series . The air filter on the 4 hp Kohler K-91 is a Clinton with the up daft adapter. OK OK Wild Bill ... you said this Wheel Horse was in the Wheel Horse Factory Museum ..... so lets hear it. Alright years ago I met a woman on ebay selling Wheel Horse items and we began conversing of which she told me her father work for Wheel Horse when the company was in South Bend and he was the last Director of Quality Control. Then she told me about dad's little tractor. When Wheel Horse moved from South Bend to Bloomington, MN the Wheel Horses that were in the museum ............. wellllll lets just say they all disappeared ! And this Suburban 400 is one of them. I got the fathers phone number and we talked one evening, he told me had several positions at Wheel Horse and when the factory closed he had his eye on a RJ-35 that was in the museum BUT a younger more youthful employee got it so the Suburban 400 was the next mark. I have heard the story about this RJ-35 from another source but have lost track of it. The guy had used the Suburban 400 to cut the lawn (but notice there is a snow plow adapter on the front and hitch on the back) and not much else. He told me the Suburban 400 is no longer used and could be purchased. A deal was made and the family delivered the Suburban 400 to Chambersburg, PA during the Wheel Horse Show while they were on a trip to New York (note this is only one of three times I ever disappeared from the South Mountain Fairgrounds during the Annual Wheel Horse Show the other times were for meetings and groceries) . Not sure how this Suburban 400 will get restored BUT I do know it will be restored with incorrect parts just like it was in the Wheel Horse Museum . P.S. The other Wheel Horse in the picture needs no introduction .... it's a legend ! Wild Bill in Richmond VA
p38js 401 #10 Posted July 4, 2018 Thanks for the history lesson Wild Bill, I love to know where the tractor came from and how it was worked just as much if not more than restoring them back to their showroom glory.

He "borrowed" the one that's in that tractor cause the one on it was stuck. So I loaned him that one and then he sold it lol. With my OK tho

I need to loosen the set screw on the shifter a tad, I believe. It sticks a bit in neutral, but so far it hasn’t bothered anyone. I even stuck my daughter’s friend on it for some cruise time!

I thought it was odd that it has no air filter and no wiring, then just tonight I realized the fuel tank isn’t stock. Snowblower? I finally found the pull cord I bought for it maybe in October or so? So I figured I’d get it running again.
Pullstart 63,054 #16 Posted January 22, 2019 Either way, it runs like a champ! 3 pulls on probably 4-5 month old gas, she roared right to life!
WHGuy413 2,750 #17 Posted January 22, 2019 (edited) I have no clue where that came from. He bought the whole thing at a local show just the way it came to you minus the stuck trans. Edited January 22, 2019 by WHGuy413
