whchris 5 #1 Posted March 5, 2009 ok so those of you familiar with the 88-i think 95 Chevy trucks know about the oil filter adapter that kicks the oil filter out on an angle so the front axle doesn't crush it. and if your familiar with the leak that develop here. i have 3 pickups two 89's and one 88 that are all dripping, my question is should i just replace the seal under this adapter or is it beneficial to put a remote oil filter kit on? its pretty much the same amount of work but i was wondering if anyone else had experience with this? thanks Chris
Sarge 3,462 #2 Posted March 6, 2009 Remote filters are great for using larger canister(capacity) filters and increasing oi capacity-but you must use a correct filter with check valve to prevent run-back. Otherwise, your starving the engine every time it sits for very long. Unless it sees severe duty or you want increased capacity, I'd just fix the gasket issue and leave it as-is. Actually, I'd take it back to GM and make them fix the dumb thing - that should have never happened. And they wonder why their sales took a dump. whchris 5 #3 Posted March 7, 2009 well the seal is the exact same as an oil filter so its not a long term gasket the manual in my 88 says that this seal should be changed every third oil change but my 89 says nothing about it either way all three are in there 20's and they are all work trucks (snow plows sanders fire wood and any material needed for jobs)
