Sarge 3,464 #26 Posted June 21, 2018 There are many grades of fillers used to smooth panels that are pitted, make sure you are using a filler that is rated to seal the pores and prevent further corrosion - or it will come back. Do some research and ask your local auto supply or body supply what the pros are using - they usually can make a recommendation for what you're working on. I know in the past the fast curing fillers I've used have sealed up well enough that none of the old rust pits have opened up. Bondo, being a fiberglass type, can and does at times allow moisture to migrate into the metal - that's why it's so bad for car repairs and it can cause panels to rust from underneath. I'm by no means a body guy, nor an expert - but I know quite a few and listen to their advice. Which, btw - Eastwood is pretty good at helping folks, and their website has a ton of info on how-to this stuff. Sarge
Howie 899 #27 Posted June 21, 2018 I think if moisture can not get into the Bondo one is good. If all of the rust is removed from the pits cleaned before applying it should stick. When people started using it to patch holes it started to get the bad rap. I know there are some different types and some may be water proof but I think generally harder to work with. Had an old body man at wife's uncle's dealer ship show me how to do some of this stuff.
mc1960 43 #28 Posted June 26, 2018 We started spraying the primer today high solids urethane. I also picked up the red paint supposed to be direct over metal so over primer hope it will be better.

farmer 1,075 #44 Posted July 12, 2018 It’s going to be one smart looking machine when your done (very envious of those front tyres). You are probably already aware but it looks like the left rear hub has slipped in an inch, might want checking if you had missed it? Nice job so far.
mc1960 43 #45 Posted July 14, 2018 Prior to me getting someone welded it, so I guess it will have to be that way
farmer 1,075 #46 Posted July 15, 2018 I guessed you knew, if it’s welded you probably won’t have an issue.

We took a bunch of pictures of my honey's 657 before disassembly and I still had a hard time deciding where certain things needed to go.
