Stealth126 54 #1 Posted May 28, 2018 (edited) Just noticed today that my 1067 is leaking oil from the rear end. Glad I parked it in the garage, because there are so many oil spots in the shed that I never would have seen it. Anyway, it's leaking enough to leave a spot 2 inches in diameter since this morning. When I got it it was all gummed up under there. Old oil caked everywhere. Looked like the seals on both hubs leaked at one time. Also appeared to have leaked from somewhere in the middle front. At that time it had been run very little for quite some time. I cleaned it up and changed the fluid twice. Looked like it hadn't been changed since 1847. I've been running it at least twice a week since I got it in early March. I'll clean it again and watch closely, but wondered if there is a spot that's notorious for leaking on these. It's not coming from either hub. They are both dry. Not coming from the plug. That's dry too. It's dripping from the very front in the middle. With that divider across the middle, that obviously rules out a leak in the back anywhere as I haven't been parking on the side of any mountains. Thanks in advance. wallfish 17,082 #2 Posted May 29, 2018 The four bolts which hold the frame to the trans need to be tight. Those threaded holes go all the way through the trans casting. Also look for any damage or loose bolts holding the casting halves together if it's not the mounting bolts
Stealth126 54 #3 Posted May 29, 2018 Okay. I'll check it.
stevasaurus 22,870 #4 Posted May 30, 2018 Actually those bolt holes do not go all the way through the transmission casting...they are blind holes that are 1" deep. The 4 bolts that hold the transmission to the mounting plate are 3/8 16 x 7/8". I would still check those bolts (you can pull them out one at a time) and make sure they are the correct length and stick an awl in the hole to verify that no one has drilled them out. There is a hole on that end of the transmission that does go threw though. It is a 1/4" hole that is used to put the detente ball mechanism together. You wont see it with the transmission mounted to the frame plate. They usually get sealed with a dab of calk or just left open. That hole should not leak unless you filled the transmission with oil. The transmission should only have about 2 qts of oil in it. One other possibility, if you filled the transmission with oil or diesel to flush it, you might be seeing a little of that from leaking out the detente hole from before and it only just seeped out. It does not take very much oil to make a large wet spot...only a few drops. If that is what happened, it should stop before too long. So, other then loose bolts holding the transmission halves together, I would be looking for a crack in the casting also.
