mikeeyre74 289 #1 Posted May 21, 2018 My friend asked me “I cannot figure how to remove the mower drive shaft from the bearings and aluminum housings once I pull the side drive gears off” But I haven’t a clue, because I don’t have any of these things… Can someone advise? squonk 41,027 #2 Posted May 21, 2018 Once the gear is off the bearing is "Supposed to" slide off. What happens is the bearings wear and end up sticking themselves to the shaft and end up spinning the bearing in that aluminum housing and wrecking it. At least all the ones I've run across were that way.
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,033 #3 Posted May 21, 2018 Do you have the illustrated parts list for the deck? It should illustrate what holds things together like roll pins and set screws. Give us an idea of what deck it is and we can hunt up a manual. Garry
mikeeyre74 289 #4 Posted May 21, 2018 It’s a period Correct deck for a model 856, The gear drive type, with the stamped metal deck? I don’t have any other information because it’s not in front of me…

squonk 41,027 #6 Posted May 21, 2018 Once you take the gear off and the gear key the bearing should come right off with a little tapping of a hammer unless the shaft is worn into the inner race which it probably is.
